So a friend of mine has been working on a huge database of 12 gauge loads in a google sheet. He currently has published data for 7,500 loads in his spreadsheet. He has designed the sheet to be easily searchable/sortable and he has input all of the prices into the form so you can see what each load costs per box. Its really cool.

So i thought why not take the data from the Yahoo group and load it into his really neat system. I figured that could be really usefull to plenty of guys on here.

I however am not a knowledgeable reloader so I am sure i am going to need some help with this process. I thought i would set up this thread to ask questions and get clarifications from some of you more knowledgeable reloaders.

Some questions to start:

Here is the list of Wads in the database:
WAD
.135"CW
1/2" FW
1/4"FW
1/8"CW
1/8"CW
14C16
3/8" Fiber wad
3/8FW
38C16
Activ G-28
Activ G-32
B&P 16 ga
BP Z-16
BPI G 16
BPI SG16
BPI SG-16S
BPI SG20L
BPI Z-16
CB 0100-16
Ched G1632
Cheddite 1628
DR-16
FC16
Hard wad
HCW16
NC16
One 1/2" FBS*
Rem 29932
Rem R-16
Rem SP-16
SG16
SP16
VP80
WAA16
WWA16
Z16

Are any of these duplicates? ie the same thing.

Here is the list of Hulls:
Fiocchi 16
Activ 16 Ga.
Canuck
Cheddite
Fed 16 Plas
Rem Shur Shot
Rem-Peters Express Hull
Rio 16 Ga
RP SP 16 Plastic
Win CF
Winchester X-pert
Winchester X-pert-Ranger Shells - Not Cheddite
WW 16 Poly

Are any of these duplicates or interchangeable?

Thanks for your help. I think this can be a great tool when it is done.

Many of the wads are duplicates. A few of the hulls also.

Great idea, but we already have spreadsheets.

Who is the friend that made the spreadsheets? Would he also happen to post on SGW and Trapshooters?

Yes I know about the Yahoo group spreadsheet. I am simply taking that data and putting it in, what I think to be, a better format. Easier to compare, find and review.

Could you tell me which of the wads and hulls are the same?

That would be great. The Yahoo group is kind of a pain to use.

Here goes!!

Wads:

.135"CW, 1/8"CW, NC16, FC16, HCW16 are typical overpowder or Nitro card wads and can be substituted for each other.

1/2"FW, 1/4" FW, 3/8" Fiber wad, 3/8"FW, 1/2" FBS, 14C16 and 38C16 are all fiber wads to build wad column height.

All brands of Nitro Cards and Fiber Wads maybe substituted for each other with no real world effect on internal ballistics. There are some Lujtic Mono Wads kicking around which are a card/fiber wad combination. These are a bit different, but finding them in 16 Gauge is almost an impossibility. Most card and fiber wads made currently are a poor substitute for the Alcan, Winchester, Remington and Federal card and fiber wads of yesteryear. Alcans are still kicking around and I would suggest if you want to try card and fiber loads Alcans are the ones you want to use.

Activ G-28, BPI SG16, BPI G 16,SG16 are actually Gualandi 2116 wads 1 oz. loads

BPI SG-16s are actually Gualandi 1816 wads, a taller version of the above but for 7/8 oz. loads

Activ G32 are actually Cheddite G1632. They are for 1 1/8 oz loads.

BP Z-16, B & P 16, BPI Z16, Z16 are actually Bascheri & Pellagri Z2M 21 16.cal wads

DR-16 is the newest wad from DownRange invented by our own Nick Hammack!!!

Rem 29932 and Remington R-16 are the same wad. 29932 is the factory item number.

SP16 is a Remington SP16

VP80 is a wad sold by Ballistics Products Inc.

CB0100-16 is a clone and is a direct substitute for Winchester WAA16 also listed as WWA16

OK next post is for hulls.

Hulls, I will group them together when they are the same hull.

1) Fiocchi 16 current plastic w/plastic basewad

2) Activ 16 all plastic with a metal insert in the head to hold the primer tight. No longer made stopped production in the mid 1990's.

3) Canuck no longer made. plastic with a paper basewad.

4) Cheddite, WW 16 Poly, RIO 16 Ga. these can be found to be exact Cheddite hulls or a slight variation of the current Cheddite hull. The differences in ballistics are negligible.

5) Federal Plas current Federal hull with paper basewad.

6) Rem Shur Shot, Rem-Peters Express hull, RP SP 16 Plastic - These are all Remington SP16 Plastic hulls with plastic basewad. You will find them with medium and high brass, black or green, they all load the same..... with one exception there are some older hulls with similar designations that have a fiber basewad and use 157 size primers.

Winchester X-pert, Winchester CF, Winchester Ranger, be careful these hulls may or may not be the same, because some sources (mostly Hodgdon) have completely misleading data because they use what is printed on the hull as their description, instead of using the actual hull construction as their description. True Winchester 16 gauge CF hulls have not been made since the late 1990's.

I hope this has helped.

The whole idea of reworking someone's Spread Sheet, is like dating a friends wife, after a nasty divorce.
But that's just my thought....

Dog,

The only thing you've said I'd question would be the cheddite 1628 and the sg16 being the same wad. Got both and they are not. Never paid any attention if they load the same.
