RGL Hull 2 3/4"
Fed 209A
16.0 gr Green Dot
CB-0078 wad
7/8oz 7 1/2 lead
6 Fold
1207 11800
1205 11700
1222 12900
1214 12400
1204 11900
Ave 1210 fps AVE 12140
EV18 fps EV 1200psi
Surprised that pressure is that high with the velocity being that slow .
Thoughts ? |

Green Dot is a bit on the fast side for the hull and you also used a Federal 209A. That wad exposes a lot of plastic to the hull which in turn creates friction. Put it all together, and you get a bit more pressure than you expect. This load kinda shows why you need to test and not just assume because other loads work out this one will too.
What was the crimp depth?
Who did the testing? |

Wow! I didn't see that coming, but DC lays out all of the contributing factors very well. I'd go to a W209 and back off to 15 to 15.5 grains and see what you get. I'm going to send Tom some 12 gauge loads, so I could make those adjustment and send them along. |

The crimp depth was right at .060 , Tom Armburst did the testing .
Dave , either way . I have some other loads that came in a little high that I plan on sending back , it may be a week or so before I get them ready . |

Your velocity was pretty consistent! Dang, those pressures crept up there. Well, tell me what specific tweak you want and I'll send 3 to Tom tomorrow or Saturday: Monday at the latest. My treat! |

Mike, you're right. I just looked at the spreadsheet and your version using the DR-16 averaged 1240 fps with 11,600 psi. |

Mike , I guess I was expecting or should I say hoping for more velocity closer to what you got with the dr load . In reality they are pretty close .
Dave , I would think 15.0 grains with the same primer will get safe pressures . 15.5 with a win primer might do it also . What are your thoughts. |

If it were me I'd do the 15.5 with the W209 primer, but that's only because I shoot W209's pretty much exclusively for my target loads. That said, if you're wanting to use the Fed 209A's in the load then let's test it with them. How about I do three of each and see what happens? (15.0 with the Fed 209A, and 15.5 with the W209) |

A 7/8oz load in the 1150-1180 fps region with moderate pressures is good with me . |

Dave , if you want to send the load with the Win primer , I will send the load with the Federal primer when I send the other loads . |

Mark, sounds like a deal. I'm sending Tom a couple other 12 gauge (the horror!) tweaks, so i'll send along the 15.5 gr./W209 load above.
It's a good thing for me because I'm one of those degenerates who actually likes the RGL hull for target loads, and with the unreliability of powders supplies these days it will be good to have a couple solid choices in the books. |

They're all meticulously weighed and loaded, and they'll get shipped out today. Viva la 16! |
