We've fleshed out the 1 1/8 oz loads lately, so now let's share some favorite 1 oz. hunting loads. I really don't have any that I can heartily recommend. I've been shooting mostly factory hunting loads for a long time, so I'd really like to have some good "word of mouth" 1 oz. loads to try. |

Dave, one of my favorite 1 Oz loads.
Remington hull
Remington 209P
Remington SP16 wad
20 grains Unique
1270 fps , 10,400 psi
I've shot a lot of roosters with that load. |

I was pleased with its performance . The data source is the Lyman Shotshell Reloading Handbook. |

I was always satisfied with the Super X factory loads, so the loads that replicated those have been the ones that I used, In warmer weather so powder ignition wasn't affected, the type of powder didn't seem to matter. |

I have all those components, Mark. I was thinking about using the B&P wad. |

Shot wt. Vel. Powder Gr. Wads PSI
1 1238 SR4756 30 card and fiber 6440
1 1328 SR4756 32 card and fiber 7440
SR4756 is no longer made, but I have enough for several years. I post these now obsolete recipes only because of the great patterns and outstanding performance that these loads provide.

Still load Win CF's for hunting 19.5 gr Unique R-16 wad win 209 1oz #7. I loaded some federal paper hulls last year 20 gr unique SG16 wad win 209 1oz of #7 fold crimped. Those were an untested load broke clays and killed birds. |

J Schultz -- Those might be very nice loads for my old damascus hammer gun. I wonder if they'll have similar pressures in my thinner wall/larger wad MagTech brass vs. your RMC's. What primers did you use? Did Armbrust do the pressure testing? Thanks. (I still have an almost full 8 pounder of 4756.)
DC37 -- That looks like a good higher performance field load. I'll try it. Have you patterned it? -- not that that would automatically be relevant to other barrels. If I know you, though, it must be have given you very good field performance or you wouldn't be shooting it.
Cheers,
Tony |

I apologize, I forgot to include that the primer is a Winchester 209 and your Magtech hulls, unless modified don't use a 209 primer. Tom Armbrust supplied me with the loads and did the pressure testing. Tom told me that he did the original pressure testing for Double Hammer brass hulls. Double Hammer brass hulls (no longer in business) modified Magtech hulls to accommodate 209 primers and they also added an inner base wad. |

So Jack, just to clarify, the pressure data you list was done with Armbrust's loads with the W209 in RMC brass, right? Or is the pressure data you listed the data Armbrust generated for the Hammer Double hulls (MagTech with W209 and plastic base wad modifications)? I have both Hammer Double hulls and regular MagTechs using the large pistol primer -- in 16, of course.
PS -- You know Ballistic Products Inc once sold those plastic inner basewads. Back when they had a showroom, I'd see them there all the time. Wonder if they have any more -- not that I'd use them, that's for sure. |

Sorry, I have not been very clear. The loads were specifically for Double Hammer brass hulls using 209 primers and I have happily used the loads in both DH and RMC brass hulls. Dave Casey, former owner of RMC assured me that the loads would be just fine in RMC hulls and I have been using them for over 10 years. |
