This load came from the spreadsheets but with less powder. I believe there were 2 loads that used 27 and 29 gr. of Longshot with the same components. I just backed off the powder from the 27 gr. as I don't think there was a 24 gr. load listed with the exact same components. Anyway, I may back off a grain or 2 more and see what happens.

One thought on the raise in pressure with a once fired hull vs. a new one: with many 2 piece hulls the base wad is somewhat compressible before exposed to the pressure of firing and some of this elasticity dampens the pressure peak. After firing, the base wad looses a bit of that elasticity. How much of the pressure increase is caused by this compared to increased hull friction I am not able to quantify.
I do wonder if compression formed hulls show this same tendency to compact the "base wad" section and to what degree they do. |
