I do a lot of patterning if you haven't noticed. It satisfies my geeky data-collecting urges and I get a kick out of it. Wink

But scribing that 30" circle is awkward and I never get it quite centered on the main mass of pellet strikes as well as I'd like.

Ta Daaaa!!

Now that you have the circle, do you think your patterns will be squared away? My grandfather, who played bluegrass music, wrote a song -" I'm going round in circles trying to square myself with you".
Great idea. I like the plexi circle!

I can think of some smart-aleck remarks, but West Wisconsin is too close to NE Iowa for me to upset anyone. Do you use the plexi-glas form to draw paper targets?

Be nice and you might be allowed to root for the Green Bay Packers. Very Happy

The clear circle just lets you accurately draw the circle around the center of the pattern a little easier. It might even streamline my system of patterning. I take a few patterns with hunting loads with each shotgun I own. Rather than keeping all these rolled up patterns I could just snap a picture with the disk centered on top of the pellet swarm and keep a file of them in my computer. I don't know, we'll see.

I dont think it will change your data significantly. But I could be wrong.

Hi Dave: Good idea. Where did you get the plexiglass?

So if I understand the idea correctly, you are shooting at a large piece of paper that has an aiming point on it. then you place the clear disc over the target, centering it on the pattern. Then you do a pellet count to show where the pellets hit, showing how the pattern covered the area within the circle, and the distance of the center of the pattern from the aiming point.

I don't use an aiming point. I just want to know how dense and uniform the patterns are, so I simply place the 30" in the spot that will cover the most pellet strikes.

Let me see if I got this right, you shoot at a large piece of paper with no aiming point.
Then you put the plexiglass over where the highest concentration of shot have landed?

My God that is brilliant! You will get great groups most of the time. Of course it is a completely bogus method of seeing how your shotgun patterns.

But I admire your audacity! Carry on!

Dale

It was Bristor or Zuts who used this method in the "70 s . Personally I am a 15" string guy because I use a point of aim.

Dave I assume you point the gun to the center of the paper. I like the plexiglass . Cut a 24" circle out in the center , even better
