Thanks for sharing, Mike. Nice looking field.

Dove opens here Saturday and I am almost ready.

Thought we would get a picture of your "Duck Stamp"

Regards,
Chuck

NICE!!! Great little Superposed . Getting me pumped up for our dove opener on the 24th .

I'll be using the little Begian O/U that Dave E. was nice enough to pass on to me ( still can't believe he sold this gun ) what a sweet handling little wand .

I don't hunt doves, but that ought to be the perfect dove dropper! Man, I shot that thing well! This replacement Merkel has a lot of proving to do...

Me and the Little Begian gun are getting along great , I love shooting a gun that shoots where I am looking .

Shot at 200 clays with it using the 7/8 oz GD load and broke 179 of them . Looking forward to shooting some live targets in a few weeks .

I took the 1932 A H Fox Special 16 ga out for dove season opening morning mainly just to finally shoot a bird with the old gal. We started out pretty hot with 3 dove for 3 shots, but then the birds got a bit more wary and we ended up with 9 dove for 23 shots. I had my two MOJO doves at 15 and 25 yards and a spread of half a dozen clip on decoys out to 30 yards and only had one dove dropped inside the decoys, so me and the old Fox had to work for those birds. I've got to say though, that is one sweet shooting old gun. On a couple of shots, I intended to blow through the IC barrel to get to the MOD barrel with the non-select single trigger for birds a ways out there and dropped the birds with the first shot at 50+ steps from my dove bucket. That 30" barrel, 6 pound 8 ounce wonder is a keeper for sure.

Mike,
Looks like it was a successful day. You can probably market that elaborate dove blind and supplement your retirement income. Laughing

For reasons I don’t quite understand, I have never hunted dove. Confused

The season opened in WI and Illinois on September 1st. I had the dogs out for training/exercise and I heard a lot of ammo going BANG, but I don’t know if it did any more than poke holes in the sky.

Good Hunting,
Mike

Mike, you made me run to my Win M12, 1920 16ga. Counted the stripes on the forend, there are 14 of them.

Who ever thought of counting the rings on the forend, other than you? Wink

Mike,

Are those the kind of doves that migrate through Texas? Are they hard to hit? getting the lead seems like it might be a problem. Wink

Mike,
Great pix. I used my 62 vintage 16 870 and ended up with 8 md plus 1 rock dove. the day could have gone better but we got rained on 3 times. The last storm hit just as the afternoon flights started and ended the day.

As they say, a bad day hunting is better than a good day at work.
Bill

AM,

These are Mourning Doves and yes some stay all year now and some migrate, the migratories have not come down yet.

We can also shoot Whitewing and Eurasian Collard Doves.

There are few whitewings this far north

And Collard doves are an invasive species and can be shot all year round

YES, all doves are a challenge to hit and YES lots of lead

Mike

When you are dove hunting and not hitting, increase your lead. No one ever misses by too much lead.
