Haha, just having a little fun here. This year's budget couldn't stretch to a new SW16, so I scratched the itch with a lovely first year 48 Sportsman bought from AlaskaJake for 1/4 of the cost. It's a 28" and had an extra-full (.035") choke, so I had it opened up to a tight-mod at .017" and had the forcing cone lengthened. After that bit of reaming it's an even 6 3/4 lbs. of pheasant heaven. I left it a bit tight for a couple reasons. One, my old Rem. M11 that Savage16 now owns did many great things for me with .019" of choke. Two, I'll prolly shoot that 1 oz. of Kent #5 bismuth in it when I get into nontox land.
Shot a couple patterns this morning with my favored Federal 1 1/8 oz. 6 shot and it looks something like the long range shotgun of choice in my little battery. Or to paraphrase the great Steve Grooms, it will be used "when the skies are gunmetal gray and the roosters are wary."

And of course Mr. Forgetful forgot to throw the Kent Bismuth in the bag this morning. Too rushed worrying about getting back for da Packer game.
(Pretty nice circles, eh?) |

Just came back to edit my sloppy post 4 times.
Tramroad, those are the new black Sharpie pellets. They come pre-salted because of the extreme range birds can be shot. It helps preserve the meat when the dog completes the retrieve a few days later.
Thanks, Dale! |

Haha, this type of shotgun keeps me grounded. Sort of the anti-double shotgun. |

Those purple high-brass Federal 6's have been my go-to for a long time. They just drop birds. |

I like a pup to be persistent as it often is confirmation of my optimism. |

No, it came with a really nice glossy finish. Refinish I suppose because the checkering is mostly filled in, but the overall effect is good. Thoughts of getting that checking recut have entered my mind. |

Mark, thanks, and I'll take any excuse I can get. (used most of 'em.) I guarantee I'll be able to hit with this 48. I'm "Joe Average" and that old "Remington fit" works for me. My Beretta 12 OU is proven, and I shot my best sporting clays score with my Beretta Silver Hawk SxS. For everything else all bets are off! |

Danny, I think I know who now owns that one. It is a nice one! PM Black Belt. He has a funny story to go along with it... |
