Duncan 2002-2016. He was a great dog. Not much of a hunter, but a great companion. He will be missed.

16'er, sorry about your loss,I have lost many dogs in my life, all were gut wrenching occasions. It never mattered how well they hunted, if they were not that good it was probably me, not them.

They loved me unconditionally, the least we can do is return the favor.

Dale

Sorry to hear that 16'er. Tough times.

I put my 14 year, 8 month GWP down last week. I haven't wanted to talk about it, so I haven't said anything here.

16er and Dave,
I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my older dog this June and still can't talk about it. You have my deepest sympathy.

The loss of a dog, family pet or hunting companion, is a profound loss. A loss experienced by all dog people here. It is touching and sad to hear of everyone's losses and is something we dread, but all hope we experience. For it to happen in reverse is worse for our families. To have never had the experience of the loss is to have never experienced the joy of a dog's companionship. Gil

Took a day trip to northern Iowa today and miscalculated the amount of snow down there. I'm about 90 miles away as the crow flies, and last week we got an inch of rain that knocked our snow down pretty well with it being bare in places. Well Iowa has both more snow plus they didn't get the rain because my spots were blown full of snow and gone. Looked like Pluto, and some of the drifts along the road were taller than my truck. I tried, but I found myself barely making it back to the truck every time I ventured out. I should have stayed and hunted around here. I hit the local cover tomorrow.

Anyway, I took a quickie photo of Zeb and Gus. They had a good time!

This is the bag from the last hunt of 2016, we had 5 guns out on New Years Eve. The dark coloured hen at the front is a very rare sight on the shoot, and is the first one shot. My friend who shot it, Leigh, said that he wanted to get the bird stuffed (mounted) as it was a rare sight. My other friend, James, was showing us later on one of his birds how he takes the feathers off them for flys, as he is an avid fisherman, and he proceeded to pluck feathers from Leigh's prize bird Laughing Laughing
Leigh's face fell a mile! But luckily very little damage was done Smile
Overall a great end to 2016, happy new year to all!

First bird (collared dove) shot with what I have dubbed the "truck gun," a German sxs in decent shape perfectly suited to having its barrels stuck to the floorboard while servicing the feeder or other odds and ends on the property.
