I've shot red ones and black ones, doesn't seem to make any difference, right now they are black.

My CX2000 say "Type 209" on the box, and is what we're calling "Ch209" over here, and are red.
Here's a letter from Cheddite explaining the primers they offer, from a thread at DHC:

Still don't know why some are black, but I have seen black ones inside all the primed cheddite hulls I buy (20ga), which are advertised by BPI as having ch209 primers. |

Starting to think the Europeans are a bit confused, as was stated I've seen the CX2000 in both black and red tipped, usually from the factory in cases they come black tipped.
The way the Europeans have it CX50 is supposed to be red tipped brass colored primer, CX1000 is back tipped Brass colored primer, and CX2000 is black tipped copper colored primer.
Confused yet I am.. |

Cheddite makes two primers* I know of: the cx2000 sold here as the 209, and a milder primer called the cx1000.
I have heard that the cx1000 has a black tip and the cx2000 is red. But I can't confirm that of course.
To be safe, I use the red tip primers because I know for a fact they're cx2000 in loads where it matters. I use the black tip (which may be cx1000) on target loads.
Both go bang.
So it's either the same or milder then the red tipped cx2000.
*actually, the make a third, the cx50. Website says they're for subgauge shells. I've never seen them. They're even milder I believe. |
