Picked up an O/U Double Trigger gun and would like some help with a more exact ID if possible. I'm told it is a Simson, its similar to my Merkel 200 but with extractor and only one locking lug on the right side. Plain barrel and a notch in the action body acting as a rear sight and if your not down on the gun and line the bead up in the notch it shoots high. Date stamp 532 so no spring chicken. POW butt and very slender forearm, #6lb will make a hell of a carry gun and stamped 65 so assuming a 2 9/16" chamber. Fixed chokes with super tight over tight. Someone at one point refinished the action metal with what looks like a torch case color revitalization attempt with almost a paisley kinda thing going on. Will attempt to post pics.

Vitals; 0.634/0.640", 26 3/4", stamped 65 (2 9/16") but the chambers measure 2 3/4", DT non articulating, #5.85lb, balance right on the pin, definite reblue job at some point in life, stocks have honest wear and tear, a little pitting on the breach face and a smidge of head space, locks up tight w/center lever.

Putz, I'd ask the doublegunshop boys. There are a few over there who are very well versed on German/continental doubles. If you're not registered over there I'll gladly put this post and pictures over there this evening and see what they say.

Not a bad idea Dave, I am not a member over there and if you have the time I'd appreciate the effort. A more positive ID is more a curiosity than anything.

Putz, I didn't have the time or mental energy to get this lifted and posted over at dgs last night. They will most likely ask for a picture of the stampings in the innards, so if you can get those it will help the process. Thanks!

Yes, good pictures! I'll post this thread over there and we'll see if we get any info.

What a nice gun. You don't see many 20 gauge O/Us as light as this 16. Gil

A lower grade German Bockflinte out of Suhl. Could have been marketed by Simson (which was actually a producer not a reseller before the war) or any of the houses there or could be a guild gun. I suspect that the case color work is new also...doesn't look original. Suspect this gun has been "aufgefrischt" for resale. Have a good gunsmith go through the gun. Please don't get me wrong...this is a good quality gun and restoration work may be fine. However when folks go to the trouble of hardening the action again....I wonder. I doubt a pre-war O/U would need it.

Weight is saved by having a single lock up at the top...makes for a narrower action. Check to see what kind of steel the barrels are made of. Antinit was the best and the lightest and may also account for the light weight.

Enjoy ... nice piece.
