I have a stock of Kent Tungsten Matrix, but hoarding it, have been using Kent Bismuth #5's to good effect this fall. I have no complaints. (although there are some pheasants not quite as pleased with it) |

Going to be used on waterfowl. RST $75.00 a box WOW! must be loaded with diamond chips. At $3.00 a pop I'd either concentrate real hard or just be hearing the cash register go off each time I miss.
I did watch a fellow once shoot 23 times to kill a eider (sea duck). I checked him later at the ramp and commended him for seeing it through to the end. He stated $46.00 of the miracle Hevi Shot to finish off that cripple. Eiders and Loons have about the same table quality.
Have you tried the Federal ammo Mike? |

Me?
I shoot plain old Steel shot shells for my ducks.
But I have a good location, good canoe, good decoy spread, and
am a good caller
So skeet or IC choke and steel shot at close range does the deal.

Hootch, good to hear the Kent bismuth 5's are working out! I haven't used any yet this year, but I've been very curious about their field performance on roosters. |

The thought of using steel shot in an old SxS makes me faint of heart. |

Last year I used Rio BIsmuth in my 12's wasn't sold on 1200fps Rio Bismuth in the 16ga.
Kent's bismuth #5 at 1300+fps n the 16ga does the trick on pheasant so far. Acts much like the Rio bismuth in the 12ga.
Less than two months left in the season, we will see how it does on late season birds!
But I am thinking it will do fine, #5 hard to beat. |

The Kent Bismuth 16g at 1300 fps 1 oz is the real deal! Two years ago I was given a Box of RIO bismuth which was a box of 25 from a shot show rep. Used them on preserve pheasants and Michigan's first early teal season. They didn't impress but functioned fine for the purpose. I will be looking at Able to see if they have RIO in stock as my Phez club requires no-tox and the Kents are overkill. Kent bismuth was excellent on ducks this past fall. Wish they could bump it up to 1 1/8 but not sure there's room in the hull. Anyone reloading Bismuth in 1 1/8th? I seemed to recall the original bismuth company made a 1 1/8th load. |

An alternate source for the Kent Bismuth at a few pennies less per round, excluding shipping of course:
http://www.huntstuff.com/products/Kent%20Cartridge/bismuth.html
Granted, it's in 100 round case quantity.
While I have yet to try this vendor, they are listed on the Kent site as a source.
Regards,

I find TungstenMatrix 1-1/16 fives about the best for ducks via my 16's.
It's "same as lead", but Sporting Ammo steel 3's have been my mainstay for last several seasons, usually through a Briley MOD choked Model 12 and they work Just Fine...
I shot a lot of ducks with Winchester and Bismuth brand 1-1/8oz #4 Bismuth maybe ten years ago now? and it was fine too, and one season loaded up a bunch of that ITX #4 in 7/8oz
With all of them, I think that if you hit 'em, they usually go down.

Cabela's has the Kent Bismuth on sale right now cheaper then you can load your own. Works very well out of my 37. Killed mallards and a goose with it during the first half of our season. Like them #5's. |
