I saw a recipe somewhere on the charts for a 1 1/8 oz Ched hull, green dot, and a SG16 wad. Think I could find it again, fat chance. Anybody used this load and if so how many grains of GD did you use.

I resemble that Griffon. I can still get my sh*t together. I just can't seem to remember where I put it all. And I drink a big cup of joe every morning, so my first senior moment in the AM doesn't become an all day affair. Oh well. Confused

Alliant Herco can be a good powder selection for 16 ga 1-1/8 oz. hunting loads. It produces useful velocities w/o very high pressures. It is also not fussy in cold weather. Blue Dot is a good powder if you like 'em steamy w/o high pressures. Mag primers w/ Blue Dot and keeping average pressures over 9.2K PSI help either powder burn well even when temps drop into the teens. But best remember, nice firm crimps are required w/ either powder if you want good performance from your hunting loads in all conditions.

I was given a lifetime supply of HERCO. I use it for 12 ga., 16 ga., pistol and gallery loads in rifle. One powder does it all.

Back when you could use lead on ducks we had a load aptly named Blue Dot Bombers
32 grs BD 1 1/2 oz of #5. Wouldn't they consistently and cleanly smite an Eider at 40-45 yds. Little tough on the shoulder though. Oh the glory days.

I used 25grns with a dr OP and 1/4''filler for the 13/8 super mag . the load you are talking about was probably card OP and a filler . I also tested the same load with the card/filler and it was WAY down there in pressure (like 7K psi) sort of a LP Mag !!

Close but no cigar. I grabbed my printout for Green Dot (I have a tendency not to depend on finding stuff online "later on" when I need it) and found a 1 1/16 oz load using the BPI Z16 wad and the Cheddite hull and primer. It lists 19gr. of the stuff and a hellacious pressure of 11,000 psi the achieve 1240 fps. Hope that helps.
For 1 1/8 oz stuff I got my best patterns out of 800-x and Longshot with a slight edge going to Longshot on the board at 50 yards. Of course Longshot leaks like Mexican water through a first time tourist.
