Roma's,
Is that Dan's shop? That wood looks familiar - where did you get it? Your gun is going to be awesome!

Yes, it is in Dan's shop.
It has taken so long that In the interim, I had a scratch that needed itching so I got a 16 Gauge FW L C Smith upgraded to a something similar to a Crown Grade that Geoffroy Gournet engraved for me.
This is it after getting case colored.
I'm very pleased with the results, and the picture does not do it justice. It does not hurt that I also shoot that gun really well.
This was a 2015 project.

What kind of case colors are those - chemical or bone charcoal? Who did them? I have a 30" Fox 20 gauge I will probably upgrade and am torn about which way to go.

I was told by Gournet that the case colors were done in bone charcoal by Malcolm Clark in CT .
I do not have his contact information.
Gournet took care of it for me. He told me that that this was the guy for LC Smith colors in his opinion. Foxes might be somebody else. Are you looking for that oil on water look?
I have a cyanide 20 gauge fox. I'll try to dig up a photo. |

PatrickB, I feel your pain.
My project is finally getting some traction. My smith has had my Fox 16 gauge Sterlingworth upgrade project since the summer of 2013. He's finally getting started.
The only progress photo I have so far is below. He cut the rebates in the receiver and is starting the metal sculpting. I bought a second barrel that was new old Fox stock in the white and I'm told he has fitted it to the receiver and added the ejectors. Once the metal it done he has to whittle me a new stock from the blank I sent him.
Once that is done then it will be off to the engravers. I'm thinking it might get done in 2018.

That is some beautiful walnut I am glad to know it's being made into a gun stock instead of a bowl! |

I guess I'm confused/ignorant about Fox collectors and this whole "oil on water" look. Even a 100% original Fox will have some change in the case colors over time, no? I certainly don't have an example in the safe to look at. I'm not a collector, just a bubba who likes to shoot guns. My 20 gauge Fox is a transition Philly/Utica gun that is not even close to original, so I just want pretty colors that will hold up. Lots of choices out there.
I sold a piece of Turkish to someone several years ago who was going to have a smallbore Fox restocked by Rossiter. Thought that might be the stick you have.
Thanks,
Jeff |

I think this is the piece I sold.
It's not downstairs or on any of my guns, so I'm pretty sure it went to Dan. Be nice to see it turned and on a gun.

JNW, here is a picture of me with a double gun case with a 16 gauge Fox A with new charcoal case coloring on the bottom and a Fox Sterlingworth with new cyanide case coloring. I hope you can make out the colors.
I bought them both this way so I cant help you in regards to who did the work.

What I want to know is how did you hold the case of guns and take the picture at the same time? |
