That is a beautiful piece of wood . Dan has the last two of five A Grade Foxes left to be finished for me .
The last complete redo being an A Grade 16 beavertail with 30'' tubes . The beavertail he finished was perfect , small and just enough . The wood was from Cecil and the gun weighs 6lbs 2oz . He does exceptional work .
The last two are complete redo also .
An A Grade 20 with 30'' tubes and an A Grade 16 with 28'' tubes and single trigger .
I am hoping for the 20 sometime in July 2017 and I suspect the last a year later .
He started these five in 2011 and worth the wait . Good luck . |

I am aiming to get a project completed this year....a Philly Fox SW 16 I finally found the right piece of wood for. Barrels to be blued, slight re-shaping of the receiver, mostly in the area of the fences, CCH, debating with myself on the skeleton butt plate
I am also looking for the right higher grade MF Ideal in 16.
My wallet can only stand so much however and I'm committed to another significant restoration of a 12 gauge this year as well so the Ideal will probably have to wait until 2018. |

I'm going into 2017 just like I did 2016 with no intention of buying any guns. It will likely turn out a lot like 2016 where a gun up for auction will catch my eye and I'll surprise myself with a new (used) gun. Only three new acquisitions in 2016, so the pace does seem to be slowing. There is also the issue that another gun will require the purchase of a fourth gun safe. Yep, I'm done (maybe). |

Other than my project gun referenced above, the only thing planned is a Fox XE in 16 gauge I have been trying to get someone to sell me for years. If he ever decides to sell it, I'll try to buy it. Other than that, I'm just going to keep my eyes open and try to keep my wallet shut.
The worse thing that can happen is that something like the Fox XE finally come available and I just blew all my gun money on something that was an impulse. |

The only gun that MIGHT get my attention is another Marlin Model 90 Skeetking.
Actually, I'm thinking of selling a couple of my guns including a 16 ga. Utica-Fox Sterlingworth made in 1939 (choked .006/.012") and one of my 16 ga. Model 90ST's with 26" barrels. |

That one has been available for a while. Very unrealistic price. |

16GA., 26" barrel and marked "IMP CYL". Original buyer loved grouse and rabbits over dogs.
Also, re-opening of old gunshop locally, has a J.C.Higgins [aka: Savage 311]
so I maybe I'll put it on lawaway and consider putting getting it tubed??? |

With your collection Mike, that is going to be a chore.

Also looking for a top grade (Perfection, Ideal d'Art, "Ace of Spades") Ideal in 16 of course. James should put a pic up of that stick he stole from me, the "right piece of wood" to which he refers. Philistine. |

OMG!!!!
As soon as I noticed you had posted, Mike, I knew you would be whining about my piece of walnut. If I didn't know better, I'd say you were becoming a liberal.....say something long enough and it comes true! Hahahahaha! You've certainly convinced yourself!
It isn't your stick, never was your stick, never should have been your stick. The closest you've come to ownership of this blank is that you have other nice pieces of wood.
Jealousy is very unbecoming in a man.
If you aren't careful, I'll find your perfect higher grade Ideal......before you are ready!!!! (Insert maniacal laugh here!)
Go console yourself by shooting some quail while I freeze in the icy northern dark! |
