been thinking about adding another classic 16ga sxs to my collection, I already have a nitro special but someone reamed out the chokes. anyway so far checked out a stevens 311, win 24, fox bst, then saw a 16ga sterlingworth, 30 in barrels, receiver was a shiny nickle, one small dent in a barrel, barrel also has a few rust freckles, no cracks in wood, it had a kickez buttpad and the pistol grip cap was held on with a philips screw, price was $1100, fair price? buying to shoot trap and sporting clays, no hunting.

with the condition you describe, I would pass on that one.

There are some real closet queens that you can stumble on for close to that.

Be patient.

On the other hand, 30" 16 gauge Sterlys aren't thick on the ground.

I did not check the chokes, would they have been F/F?

Agree with ROMAC. Enough average to really good guns out there. Be patient and you'll find one you will be happier with long term. $1,100 should buy an average to better condition gun with no warts.

Unless your heart is set on 30" barrels, pass. I bought mine without dent for under $700.

I HAVE A RAINY DAY GUN THAT SOUNDS A LOT LIKE THAT BUT WITH 28" BARRELS. BIGGEST DIFFFERENCE IS I PAID $350 AT Kittery TRADING POST IN ME. NOT THE CHEAPEST PLACE TO SHOP. I WOLD PASS ON THIS.

The last 16 gauge 28-inch Sterlingworth I saw at the Kittery Trading Post was last summer, and it was priced at $900. Good, average shooter quality, but nothing really special.

I can say with 100% certainty that the one you saw was in much better shape than the one I bought, Mine had a piece of 2X4 fitted as the for end. Not pretty. Fortunately I had a an original 16ga for end from a restock job on another SW. This was a very well used barn gun, Looks ugly but shoots well.

Boys, I sure don't see any of those $300-400 16ga Sterlingworths in my stomping grounds, or even any $900 ones! I paid a lot more than that for mine and I was glad to pay it..
