Savage, it was actually kind of strange. The breeder had a couple of litters at the same time, with probably 3/4 of all the pups being yellow. All of the yellows were sold immediately (fortunately I had first pick and of course picked out a black one), but the remaining black pups were harder to move I was told.
No idea why - all the pups looked good and healthy to me. Is there a preference in the non-hunter world for yellows?

Big weekend for the draht pup. Progressed from primer shells to full gun. She got to mark two birds and 'retrieve' them. Had a good natural point on the fist bird and held most of minute while we caught up with her to flush the bird. Pretty good for four months... Was a happy pup!
This has to be the best thread ever! Fn16ga can you tell me the make and model of your 16 with extrernal hammers please? It is gorgeous!
Gil and others sorry I never got back to the little English Hammer gun .
It's a Wm Summer of Liverpool , I have seen very few other guns by this maker , maybe 2 others . I have only been about find out very little about it , I do know that from the street address on the barrel it was made about 1875 . It is a very finely made piece with a lot of very fine scroll engraving. I bought it from a good friend of mine 4 or 5 years ago , who got it from a friend of his , who got from his Uncle. So we know that it's been in the US since the 30s or early 40s . He had it completely restored 15 or so years before I bought it from him . It is and all original gun except for the finishes , all original wood that was never cracked or split and metal with matching numbers , The only thing that was replace was one of the hammers screws . Really it is one of the nicest shotguns I own, IIRCC it weighs 5 lbs 11oz . Its a joy to shoot and I really enjoy hunting with it .
