Anyone here have one or know a good source online for reading about them?Looking at a Sxs boxlock with 28 in barrels that weighs 5 1/2 pds. Is it going to be "whippy" at that weight? 16ga of course

I have NO input towards your question of those guns. I do own a 5 1/2 lb Belgian guild gun 16 ga sxs with 27" bbls. It's choked skt 1 & skt 2. It's hell on grouse & quick handling. It is NOT a target gun & will bring tears to the eyes after a round of trap - etc. At that wt. it's strictly a game gun. Easy carry, quick pointing & few shots in a day.
Suspect your "query" gun would be similar.

Potentially yes a light gun can be "whippy" but there is more to it than weight, it is distribution or balance

Depending on how the gun is balance it could a wonderful light gun, given a light load, or whippy ( butt heavy) or awkward barrel heavy

Many light guns are light because they have had their barrels worn down or honed so care must be taken to compare proof marks to wall thickness or perhaps have cut barrels. Note shorter barrels especially below 26 inches are likely cut. A 5 1/2 pound gun should shoot a 7/8 ounce load and definitely no more than an ounce and is likely a canidate for low pressure loads only.

A gun with cut barrels can be made usable, but the value is significantly impacted and should be an exceptional gun to be bothered with. The gun listed earlier with 24 inch barrels is not one I would consider especially for more than a few hundred at best. It has cut barrels (no choke is likely) (out of balance is likely) stated 2 3/4 which is either an error, often dealers say it, but don't have a proper gauge or a modified meaning it is out of proof as a 1oz gun is typically 2 1/2 or 2 5/8.. there are better guns for the same money and it is way overpriced

Sorry to answer late in the post.
I have a Charles Ingram 12Ga hammer gun. It is of medium quality with no color casing and silvery damascus barrels, however I love how the gun shoots. It is light, balances very well, has good stock dimensions and it I shoot it very well. I enjoy that gun a lot. There is just something about it, with its small round action, the Jones rotary underlever and the low profile rebounding hammers. BillK
