I recently scratched the 16 gauge over/under itch with a French built Chapuis C35. Chapuis is best known for double rifles built on a Blitz (triggerplate) action. French guns are such an unknown to the general public and they tend not to hold their value over here, so I was able to buy this for less than half of what the original owner paid in 2013. I have owned a couple Merkels and Citoris. One Merkel didn't fit and the other was just the fatal combination of too light and short for my shooting style on longer birds/targets. The Citoris didn't fit at all and tended to bite my cheek. So I've been looking for a 16 ga. OU with all the quality of the Merkels and Citoris along with the weight and handling that brings out my best shooting on the range and the pheasant fields. This one popped up and seemed to push all the right buttons. It also has factory sling swivels, and I've become a fan of slings on my pheasant hunts. Chapuis is pronounced "sha-'pwee", but that's far too gay, so Black Belt dubbed it "Chappy."

I was curious about barrel length, weight and the chokes?
Thanks for sharing, that looks like a really nice shotgun!

Beautiful piece. I'd noticed that gun listed in your sig and had been curious s it wasn't a name I was familiar with.
Definitely looks like it belongs in the tier of guns I'd be petrified of handling much less taking for a walk. I'd need to be medicated if I put a significant ding or scratch on that. |

It's a very nice piece! Nicer than my pay grade, but not much more than a new Citori. The owner paid $4500 for it in 2013, and I bought it for something under $2100. It has 27 5/8" (70mm) barrels and weighs 6 3/4 lbs. The chokes are neatly marked under the forearm as "1/4 & 3/4". Despite varying opinions I'm very happy with the weight and handling. This is right in my wheelhouse for my best field shooting, and it will be comfortable at the range. The grips are slim, but it has a little heft which makes for a great shooting 16. These are built on the same triggerplate action as their double rifles, so I'm thinking it will be pretty durable. |

Got a sling for it? I'm getting to where I find slings very useful on smottbores. I do a lot of dog training and slings are handy when I am planting birds, etc. |

Yep! I have at least half a dozen 7/8" slings around here. I like them a lot. |
