Hi Gil,

Not trying to be nosy, just curious? Is the sling 7/8" or 3/4" in width? Also, does it connect to a stud above the forearm, between the barrels on the rib? Or..?

Thanks for checking inside the stock for dimensions - very interesting system! This is a learning experience for me.

Thanks again and shoot it well!

Brittman

I'm not at home to measure the sling, but the sling is in the 3/4" to 7/8" range. It's metric. On the end of the sling is what is nicknamed "Napoleon"s Hat" due to is shape which is the outline of Nap's hat. Mounted between the barrels is a small diameter ring with a section missing at the bottom. A thinner part of the "hat" slips between the ring's prongs at the missing section of the ring. The hat is turned while inside the ring so that a thicker part of the hat is 180 degrees to the butt. This holds the hat in place so that it doesn't slip loose from the ring or fall out of the ring as the width of the hat for its curved portion is such that it won't fit between the prongs. To retract the sling, the process is reversed.

Brittman, I have some photos I ma trying to upload to photobucket right now that will I'm sure make everything clear to your regarding sling cavities, Nappy's Hat and other MF trivia. But I'm finally having the photobucket problems everyone talks about and have to leave for the evening in 15 min. Will post them when I can.

Here's one of them. It's an old photo from before the stock was refinished.

James asked me to post these couple photos, as he was having trouble with photobucket:

Wes- these are amazing guns, and the sling is incredibly useful.

Hey James & Mike,

Great photos - I appreciate you taking the time to show the sling, swivel, and hollowed out area in the buttstock. Very COOL, indeed...!!

Thanks to you both, I now was able to learn something about a neat French SXS shotgun / plus others, too.

I hope to be able to see one up close one day, maybe at a big gun show? (I'm surprised another gun company hasn't done this system?)

Good shooting to you both and thank you, again! This site is a wealth of info - WOW...

Brittman

You are most welcome. We do it for love of the gun. There is a high grade 16 on G.I right now. I called the seller to give him some insight and tips on the gun, and he was very appreciative. He said he picked it up sometime ago at the Tulsa show. Here is a link, and if you're interested, I'll give you some more insights into the gun. Currently, there are three people in my house visiting from France, and I continue to develop connections there to obtain the pinnacle of Ideals in 16...

Anyway, that one on Guns International:

WOW...! All I can say is, that is one BEAUTIFUL Ideal grade...! Thanks for the link, guys.
They have several on the GI site for sale, I see? It's nice to learn more about other country's firearms, and we're never too old to learn, right? You gentlemen are the experts. Thanks again!
Brittman
Very Happy

James, I see what you mean regarding the same engraver on your 6REE most likely having engraved the Ace of Spades that Mike is dreaming about/coveting/drooling and scheming over. It is drool worthy. In the action's photo, the dog is easily seen, but I had to hunt through the engraving to find the prey--pheasants, one flushing, the other running. Beaut of a gun by any standards. BUT, your stock wood is definitely more beautiful. Gil

PS: Wes, the retractable sling is also found in the less expensive MF Robust series.
Here's the stock of my Robust 226 circa 1930's.

My French house guest has the pics, and has already found a gun shop on the Champs
Elysees (he lives just outside Paris) that specializes in high grade Ideals. He will begin the search when he gets back to France in a week, and is clear that I am only interested in a 16. He also understands that this particular 16 was sold several years ago on NaturaBuy,and it is not unreasonable to surmise that this gun shop may be familiar with the gun and its whereabouts. Now to get the money together. Rolling Eyes

Mike, How much of Mournetas was translated during the visit? Wink
When I first saw the Ace of Spade's photos, I didn't realize that the Spades weren't integral to the action which would otherwise make the stock removal and installation the Rubik's Cube of gunstocks. Any idea how many were made? Gil
