I like the way this post developed. I wouldn't say this site gets stale just a bit slow at the end of bird hunting season. Anyway keep the photos coming this is good fun.

It could be that the Winchester model 12 16 is the best shotgun ever.

I'd not be surprised. It's definitely the one I most enjoy carrying.

One thing I'm pretty sure of- we're a bunch of lucky rascals who'd better appreciate this gun/ gauge/ dog/ bird/ old friends/ open spaces thing. Dale, say the word and we'll swing by Laramie this fall and make you an official Dakota pheasant blocker.

In reply to Mikes question, it's a St. Etienne French guild gun. Choked at Sk1 and Sk2, it worked great last year using 7/8 oz 2 1/2" reloads on grouse/woodcock over my English pointers. I'll work on sharing more details in any future pictures posts. Thanks for the inquiry (and the pic help) Mike!

Here are a couple of French guns. A 16 ga. Brun-Latrige. In the Manufrance "tribute" photo, is the 16 ga. Robust 226, circa 1930's, with an MF loading block, shot and powder dippers, 16 gauge roll crimper, hand-made French dog bells by Daban, sitting atop Guy de la Valdene's woodcock hunting book, Making Game. Hopefully Rick Grimes will chime in with his hammer gun and game photos.

Dale, here’s my 1963 Ithaca 16 M-37, 26” IC barrel. Abby is the tired dog with a 3 gun limit, last day of the 2012-13 woodcock season in SC. Floyd’s 20 Citori. Jeff took his Uggie 20 and went home before photo.

Thanks, but I don't think I am up to the task. I was an official Wyoming Pheasant blocker, back in 1950!
Any more just seeing these pictures and reading of your adventures in the field, will get me by.

Dale

First grouse ever. Forgot to take a nice field pic. This'll do.

Second grouse.

first grouse hunted by myself, no dog, five flushes before he succumbed to my superior hunting skills...lol.
