I'm looking for some info on a Japanese single shot 16 gauge with a 42" barrel I recently bought. It is lite in the hand and my scales have it weighing 6Lbs. I have not shot it yet. I was hoping to find out a little more info before doing so. Here are a few pictures. I have found a little info that may trace it back to Hamada and Sons in Japan.

42" barrel!!? Is that a typo? Greener type side safety is cool; can't tell you anything about the gun though. Looks well made but coming from Japan in that era that's no surprise.

yes 42". I have never seen anything like it. I'm hoping it is safe to shoot. The bore is clean and it looks like it has been shot some.

Very interesting gun! One thing about is when you shoot you will be a lot closer to the bird than any one hunting with you. Wink

Thank You
Have you had anyone identify the letter above the 16?
Mike

I read somewhere one time that a long barrel length like that will cut down the report significantly.

I do not know if it is true or not but I wonder if that has anything to do with why it was made with that length barrel.

Maybe it was a poacher's gun? Question

With that side safety, one would expect the scattergun had some form of a Greener origin or connection.
Greener sold buckets of GPs, with a Martini-Henry action, across the world....police to farmsteads.
Could have been a deal with the Japanese requesting an action different than the standard GP.

It chambers 2 3/4" shells. Lock up is tight.

Too many folks looked at your photos. All I can see is the "Photobucket sucks" image.
