With the help of a lot of you, I finally successfully reloaded my first trial shells. The things that came across was check things multiple times, take your time, be sure of components, and weigh the results. The last is what gave me a little trouble: While physically impossible, the digital scale was telling me I had twice the powder and shot the recipe called for. As Sherlock Holmes said, "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." Since the weight was almost exactly double of what it shoud be, I suspected the scale calibration. With a little digging, I found that I had been given two weights and was supposed to calibrate with both of them on the scale. Recalibrated, and happy to see that the universal charge bar was right on the money on both powder and shot.

I'm off and running...

Mike

Ha! A Holmes fan! While he did say "Come Watson, the game is afoot!", I have never found (and have read them all, some several times) the phrase, in its entirety, "Elementary, my dear Watson." Trivia time: who is the only woman of interest to Holmes, known to him as "THE woman" ?

It's good to know Ole Holmes liked the gals. I had the distinct impression he was a foot fetishist. Rolling Eyes Sorry, i could not resist. Bad 16GG...bad, bad 16GG. Cool

I drove a Bohemian Scandal in high school - no pick up at all but it handled the twists pretty well and the back seat was comfy...

Sebascodegan,

You are, of course correct.

Thank you Hoashooter. The last thing I want to do is damage a beautiful gun or face. Razz

Trivia # 2: What did Holmes call an "extra" in the natural world, something for which there was no rational, scientific explanation?

I cheated and Google'd...I learned from my English teacher wife who does text searches for plagerism (amazing how many kids ignore the warnings and do it anyway...and fail)

Laughing

Sebascodegan:

You are a naughty boy. You will now go to your keyboard and write: "I will not cheat when answering Sherlock Holmes trivia questions" 100 times on a separate thread. You may not copy and paste, or use any other method or help to circumvent the manual typing out of this phrase 100 times. If you cheated to find the answer "Irene Adler" you must type this phrase out 500 times.

You have committed a grievous sin my boy, and I shall not put any stock in your fishing or hunting stories.

Mike

Trivia #3: What was Holme's smarter brother's name, and why was he not famous?

Consider me chastised...if not chaste... Rolling Eyes

I do enjoy Dole's stories though; I even found an old leather bound edition stuffed behind some books at an antique book store (which I snagged for about $10! Wink )

BTW, what kind of digital scale do you have and do you like it?

Your chastity I leave up to you, as is appropriate. Very Happy

It is a DigiWeigh from Digital Scales. Weighs carats, grams, grains, and oz.

If memory serves, it was about 30.00 off e bay. Now that I have it correctly calibrated, I like it a lot.

Good to know. I've been using a RCBS beam scale, but have been toying with the idea of an electronic one to speed things up a bit. The price sounds good too.

Mycroft was smarter than his brother, but incredibly lazy.
