I've got some Cheddite/Herters hullls that I'm wanting to reload but the only recipes I can find call for Cheddite primers. I have CCI, Winchester & Federal primers but no Cheddites. For powder I've got Universal, International, Long Shot, Green Dot and Red Dot. Anyone have a recipe they would share that would include those components?

Thanks!!

Hi JRP,

Did you join the yahoo group and download the spreadsheets?

When I ran a quick filter for cheddite hulls without cheddite primers like 55 recipes were out there.

I'm Running out the door so don't have time to post links and data but if you read about the first dozen or so posts on this page you will get headed in the right direction.

Will check in again when I get back with more time.

Hi, here's a link to the Yahoo Group. Lots of great loads. Free to join.

https://uk.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/reloading16gauge/info

Also, go to the web sites of the various powder makers, they have recipes on them also.

Good Luck!

Greg

Thank for the responses. I updated my info from yahoo forum. Found this load:

Cheddite 1 oz. Universal 21.4 Fed 209A BPI Z 16 1280FPS 9,100PSI

Only problem is I don't have any Z16 wads (Don't really like them). I have SG16, CB, and Rems. Would any substitute safely?

Once you've used up your Win primers, find some Cheddites (Clerinox). They're cheaper and very reliable. I've stuck with one reload since getting back into the 16ga business: Herter's hull, Cheddite primer, CB-7/8 oz wad, 19.3 grains Universal, 7/8 oz shot. I do find that this load leaves just a bit too much space for really good crimps. One Cheerio on top of the shot solves that problem.

Are you saying for that particular load mentioned that substituting the Win209 would not have much of an impact? Or are you saying in general the Win209 can be substituted for the Cheddite primer?

If that latter, I would agree that the FPS may only have a minor impact, but I would think pressure could be another story.
