Recently picked one up--the REAL W&S, not the current Turkish-made ones. 1960 gun with 2 1/2" chambers, although someone lengthened the cones. Really nice gun. Dead on at 6# with 28" barrels, and a nice leather-covered pad was added. Just right for my LOP. That gun actually handles the factory 1 oz Herter's (which are CIP approved, per the box) pretty well, but nice recoil reduction dropping down to 7/8 oz reloads.

Hi, congrats and I hope you have many happy and healthy years shooting her!

Just something to think about. As your gun was made in 1960, it does fall under the 1954 Rules of Proof. Under this rule, the Service Pressure for your gun will be 8938psi. You can check on the bbl flats and it should read "3 Tons Per Square (it will be a box/square btw) ", "

I kind of doubt that factory Herters are that low pressure. You'd be better off reloading or getting RST to shoot in her. Also, if the chambers (and not just the forcing cones) have been let out, by English standards your gun is out of proof (unless it's been re-proofed).

These are very good quality guns and should give you a lifetime of great service.

Best of luck to you!

Greg

Sounds like a nice 16.! I hope to see it next month at the Warrens shoot, Larry. This year I'll remember to bring along my prewar Merkel. Wink

As gjw said above, I'll chime in... I'm not sure you're on the right track with CIP. I could be misreading you, but your quote above seems to indicate you think that "CIP approved" means lower pressure maybe? In fact, CIP is a HIGHER PRESSURE standard than the US factory shells. I wouldn't shoot CIP shells in a brand new gun unless I knew the gun was manufactured and proofed for that, which US guns are not.

If I'm misreading your comment, my apologies, just don't want you ruining that nice gun etc. Wink
