One of the M-37s I have is a 12 ga from 1953 (according to serial #) 519348 -2

Another is a 16 ga from 1954 serial # 559542 - 4

The 12 ga has checkering on the butt stock, the 16 does not.

What / or is there any significance to the -2 or -4 at the end of the serial number?

it must be the same as barrel sn.

If nt have headspace checked.

Prior to 855,000 SN, the barre were matched specifically to the receivers.
