Does anyone have a source for 16 ga steel in #6 or #7 shot size? I can findnothing but #2 and #4. And let me compound the problem by noting that I live in California were shipping may not be easy.
thanks,
Larry |

I have looked for size 6 steel shot shells too. My solution was to buy #4 and replace the shot with size 6. |

I've got a good supply of 16 ga pheasant and duck loads Looks like I'll be shooting my 12 ga on the dove opener, Sep 1. |

A 12 or 20 seems the best alternative here. I've shot 16ga TM at woodcock, but the way I miss doves, that'd be prohibitive!
Got a 20ga Beretta 303 last year, steel 6s or 7s would work. |

Sounds like a perfect time to start reloading. Then you can shoot whatever you want at reasonable prices. |

I agree with Ohio wirehair, time to start reloading.
But fear not its not the end of the world, you'll need to buy a Loader - they're as inexpensive as $60 - $70, and then checkout Ballistic Products Inc. for wads & shot.
Initially its a bit of a sting, but not that bad if you truly love 16 GA.
Personally, when it come to steel shot target loads, 12 & 20 GA Winchester loads are readily available at WalMart for under $6 a box.
Frankly that's what I would do.
16 is not a GA for all seasons - so to speak, actually upland is about "it" now that I think of it. |

While not cheap, I only shoot doves with non toxic one day a year so using 45 Bismuth shells (my shooting was off) for 15 doves was no big deal and I rarely shoot more than a box or two at waterfowl a year so no big deal. It was fun to see the Game Warden's eyes when he saw my gun and that I used bismuth when we loaded upmat the end of our day on the public dove field.
When one considers all the other costs in hunting to include gas, hotels, high grade guns, and dogs with their maintenance the cost of non tox does not shift the total much
I use 16 for all my hunting save when I shoot a family gun for old time sake.
The key thing 16 gauge hunters must do is stockpile a variety of shells in order to have the right shells on hand. I have a variety of bismuth, NICE shot 16 on hand in excess of five seasons basic load requirements. I even have 16 ga steel, though since I sold my Citori I have not used any.
My advice is to stock pile buying a stockage every spring. |

rotometals has been routinely having sales and free shipping specials all summer - just had one . If reloading is a consideration , I'd give them a look . Their bismuth has been about 157 bucks for 10# and I believe I saw as small as #9 shot . Might be the cats meow for doves . |
