Just curious if anyone here has participated in a biathlon? I've always wanted to, but now that I'm in my 50's, it doesn't seem realistic given the time required to train, etc. So, I thought it might be fun just to set up my own course in a remote area, strap a 22 to my back and jog through the woods to see how I do. Of course, safety would be a concern, but after that's figured out, it seems like it would be a blast, pun not intended.Rolling Eyes Anyone have any experience with this?

I've done it a few times on crippled roosters and longbeards with shotguns, but was always more of a sprint........ The ultimate though, is in hip boots through flooded timber!

Mark, wasn't a biathlon, but in 1962-64 I jogged through the Black Forest in Germany with a 10lb M14, ran up and down a lot of hills, got airlifted, and fired a lot of ammo.

All of this in winter w/all gear the US Army could pile on you.

Busted my butt then, have no desire to do anything like that voluntarily now! Wink

Isn't the biathalon done on Xcountry skis in snow? that would be fun, particularly if the 22 was replaced with something resembling a sporting clays course. certainly would bear no resemblance to lugging an m60 up and down hills known only by their elevation in meters.

Griffon,

Now that's funny right there.

I'm 38 1/2, in very good shape..... a day of real woodcock and grouse hunting, 12-17 miles, does the job for me.

I'm 60 and although I still have plenty of WC/Grouse miles left in me I doubt I've got 17 miles in one day. I commend you. The motto of the guys I hunt with..Keep movin or you croak.

I was really thinking of this as more of a fun summer activity. Something to try as an alternative to skeet, and with some exercise to boot. I'm not a long distance runner, but a few miles of jogging and shooting in the woods seems like it would be a lot of fun. Maybe even put a 4pc fly rod in my pack and finish up with some small creek fishing.

I know this was written in jest, but yes...they do help. The suggestion is not as far-fetched as it seems. At 56, I suffered cardiac arrest while cross-country skiing on the golf course of my home town in Wyoming. Luckily the EMT's were able reach me on the course and performed CPR and when that didn't help, they shocked my three times. The third time was a charm. Living proof.

At 72, I'm considering seeing if the Scooter Store has a 4X4 model. If so, I think I'll tackle a biathlon.
