Glad it went well for you Mike. Here in WKY the rain and wind started around midnight and didn't end till around noon. I cancelled my vacation day and might try again Sunday or Monday.

Mike,
Glad to hear the season opened well for you. I was helping a friend introduce his pup to the gun at Bong and we saw a few dove hunters. The dove were all around us and the dove hunting group got a few.

My friends pup is progressing and we are close to shooting a bird over her. Just in time because grouse season opens in two weeks.

Mike

skeettx,

Great old L.C. Smith double gun sir, have fun in the Dove fields! Been using the 2 1/2 SpredR's in mine, they work great!

It was real slow up here in the Ozarks for the dove opener. I just shoot the morning of the opener and end up giving the birds away to help others fill their limit. The wife allows quail, chukar and pheasant in the house, but doesn't want any dove or sage grouse. 4-B's hunting preserve leases a few fields where the farmers have harvested corn, but the field I was on had only been cut two days before, so the dove weren't really using it much yet. I use the opener mainly as an opportunity to shoot my 16 ga A H Fox Special on a hunt that 1932 gun has probably done myriad times. I only took 5 birds, and ended up missing with the right barrel on the first two crossers, but bagged them with the left barrel. The final three were one shot, one bird. So the final tally was 7 shots for 5 birds and no bird shot at got away. I used some of my Herters #8 stash on them and it worked well.

good number of birds down in wilkes county, ga. plenty of limits taken on saturday, despite poor shooting on my part. monday was a beautiful morning as well on the same field with another good shoot. Ended up killing 21 birds for the two days, most with my '67 sweet sixteen and the rest with my '67 light twelve.
