Have a chance of buying Marlin 90, its 26" barrel, I think choked m/f
guy cut stock, slip on pad on it, bit of surface rust on receiver, locks up great, rest of gun is good condition.
So, what can I do about the cut stock? can I find an original butt plate? have a pad professionally installed, get receiver re finished or reconditioned or is any of that worth it?

I think I've read here in the past that most 26 in were made as IC/Mod. While their values have crept up a bit, we're not talking a high end collectible so if you put money into it, you probably wont get it back. But that can be ok if you want to do it, I have.

if DT, the use a magnifier and check the barrel / breech area , as the DT were stamped with the choking.

If single the take a dial caliper and get barrel end measurement. the compare against the listed choke measurement listed else where on this forum.

Marlin 90's have a certain fascination for a while...I went and bought 5 or 6 of them..all gauges except .410...Had a 26" inch 16 bore liked ok Spent a bunch on a 30?inch 12 bore..screw in chokes yadayada...Came to the conclusion that the longer barreled ones made good fence posts...the others? Not so much

Last dollar I can tell you the ones that make fence post , made after 1952 are the fence post , the ones before the war , alot of those are effortless guns .

The Rangers are almost all golden in my book .

12 GA , good guns , 16-20 GA lot of those are effortless golden guns .

As always a few fence post thrown in for good measure.

Regards Nick
