I just had an eye opening experience when I called Bass Pro Shops to inquire about a case of shotgun shells I ordered with a gift card that I had received as a Bday gift. I only received part of my order which were shoes, so I was wondering where my shells where, when I called and spoke to the customer service lady she informed me that I should have read the ammo disclaimer. BassPro Shops no longer ships ammo to the city of Philadelphia (Pa). I never pay any attention to those disclaimers as I order ammo all the time and have never had a problem. I then got the number for BassPro Corporate and gave them a call, they to informed me that Philadelphia is on the list with other cites like Washington D.C. where they no longer ship ammo. I then asked will Cabela's be adopting the same policy, the person I spoke referred me to the Cabela's website and their ammo disclaimer. I order ammo all the time and I'm pretty sure I've ordered from BassPro in the past. I'm actually hoping to hear back from their higher ups as I asked to be contacted to discuss who the brain child is behind that decision and why.

They just remove the ammo from your order under the term "Not Available", guess I'll be sticking with Sportman's Guide

maybe your problem stems from your city, they are the ones causing the restrictions, Bass Pro is just following the restriction put on them. change your city government, change the rules

freedoms are easily taken away with bureaucratic barriers.
All you have to do is make it harder and harder for someone to actually hunt/shoot, and soon enough it doesn't matter what your actual "rights" are.

It's one of the reasons I've chosen to live in AZ. If not AZ, I'd probably pick TX or AK. It takes an entire culture working at all levels of government to keep the steady erosion of freedoms by bureaucratic mandate from happening. There aren't too many places left where that culture exists.

I'm often surprised by posts from people right here in America with things like this, how they are unable to acquire various items in their locale, whether it be California, Massachusetts, D.C., Philadelphia, etc... Makes you realize it's not really the land of the free, it's just some areas haven't been overcome yet. And there's always a "good reason". Lousis D Brandeis (Surpreme Court) said "The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in the insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well meaning but without understanding."

I am pretty sure the decision came from your hometown. Cabelas or Bass Pro would be more than happy to sell to you, its profits man!

You live in a well known socialist city, there lies your problem.

No problems here in Wyoming.

It might seem like too big of a hoop to jump through but you could have it shipped to a friend or relative in one of the surrounding counties.

Also, I live in Bucks County just north of Philly, when I need ammo I just get on 95 and go down to Delaware.

I buy a trunk load of booze, gas up and then hit the Christiana Cabela's all in one trip. Delaware is the land of tax free shopping and is gun friendly to boot with reciprocal agreements with Pennsylvania for over the counter transactions. I've bought guns from Cabela's, Miller's and Artemis Outfitter's and saved hundreds of dollars in sales taxes.

Pennsylvania is a rather firearms friendly state. In spite of having a number of less than desirable folks from the surrounding states of MD, NJ and NY moving here and trying to change things (think CO with all the CA imports in the last decade or two), we've maintained and increased (recent passage of castle doctrine, etc.) that status.

This issue with Bass Pro and Philly (Pittsburgh too) has been around for a couple years. I can't speak to whether it's Bass Pro covering their butt or if Philly has ordinances against mail order ammo. If Philadelphia has ordinances on the books, they are illegal and need to be challenged. PA law is straight forward in regards to guns and ammunition- Title 18 Pa.C.S., Section 6120 of Pennsylvania law specifically states that "No county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth."

Marcus,

Certain cities in Pa, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Phily have made gun control laws/ordinances that fall outside both the Pa Constitution and the US Constitution also. The cities then contact business like Cabalas and others and advise the business of their city laws/ordinances. Until someone challenges the unconstitutional city gun control laws/ordinances in court, business shy away from delivering ammo, certain kinds of knifes and other sporting accessories. In Potter County we have a way of dealing with these kind of politicians, it's called Potter County Justice. Down thru history it has been used to tune up crooked Unconstitutional Politicians who try to steal Pa residence's God Given Inalienable Rights.

The NRA needs to bring suit against these cities, we further in Pa have a Concealed Carry law that is Unconstitutional, one of our Governors decided to implement the words, Concealed Carry License, instead of using the word permit. It is Unconstitutional to license a Constitutional Right, no man ever has to purchase his God Given inalienable rights. This wording violates both the US Federal Constitution and the Pa Constitution. In fact by the wording of the Pa Constitution nobody can even question, a Pa citizen about his arms. Ben Franklin made sure no politician, military or law enforcement could challenge a Pa residents right to keep and bear arms, read his words in the Pa Constitution. Long ago Ben Franklin stood outside his Franklin Press, in Phily with cross pistols under his frock, just the Butts of the Pistols visible. Non of the politicians of his day ever tried to disarm Ben Franklin, the price for doing so, would have been more than any politician would have wanted to pay.

we have a Cabela's in the Buffalo area . Cabela's won't even ship to THAT Cab store here in NY . Nothing like the S.A.F.E. act to scare off everyone . Truth be known , they CAN ship it in , you are the one in jeopardy as the receiver .

Thanks to those with the obvious reply's, I am well aware of what goes on here in the shity of Philadelphia. I've served the citizens for 29 years as a member of law enforcement. Some day soon I hope to move out to a safer and friendlier climate. I posted the topic more of an FYI and yes I may have be late to the party on the issue but it just happened to me today. I had no idea that there were ammo restrictions by any company as I said I order a good bulk of my ammo especially 16 gauge via online companies. BassPro of course will no loner get my business I'm sorry if it's my citys fault or not. The city's ordinances were imposed by a Democratic Mayor and I have yet to see one enforced. I admit I was taken by surprise but if anything I've learned something.

Just look at it this way. Its a small price to pay to have immediate access to hoagies, cheese steaks and pizza worth eating. I'd trade in a heartbeat.

Maine is a state that has always had a vibrant gun culture . I can buy any type of firearm pistol or long gun other than class IV and have it shipped to a dealer and pick it up the day it arrives. Ammo, gun parts and big knives, etc all cool.
