For the money best reloader is a MEC 600jr

Can be found at a good price on ebay if you are patient

You can spend alot of money reloading and play games with roll crimping, progressives and RMC brass. I have done it all, and in the end if I had been forced to stick with my MEC all would have been ok, though less amusing.

Well, depends what you consider best. If you only have one 16 gauge gun you are going to reload for and you are only going to reload small batches, then yes the MEC 600 JR would be an economical way to go, though small batches can be loaded on a Lee Loadall, which can be bought for $60 0r less new or on here from time to time new in the box, but pre-owned for $40 or $45.

Now, Best, hands down is a Spolar, But, that is pricey. I am seriously considering changing over my 5 MEC Grabbers, to One Spolar with 5 heads. With the accessory kits, the main unit, the heads for 12,16,20,28 and .410 but NO Hydrolic Unit, the tab is about $4,500.00.

Next down would be the Posness Waren, who has both single stage (375) and Progressive.

My pick for years has been the MEC Grabber. Full resize, so if you shoot many guns you don't have to worry about your reloads fitting in them all or using a secondary resizer first. Good volume per hour as it is an easy to use progressive.

Many guns but not planning on reloading a lot of shells? A MEC Sizemaster would do the trick.

Lots of choices. Depends on what you need and what you want to spend.

Of course the bottom line is also, what is your end game? If there are factory loads that will work for you (I only shoot trap and skeet with my 16s, so Remington or other no. 8 games loads are fine for me) and you shop well, you can get them at a reasonable price, maybe as low as $7.00 a box or even less. I just bought a bunch for much less. For me, reloading is a fun hobby, does not need to save me a lot of money, but I wanted 1 1/8 ounce No. 9s, so that is how you get them these days. You might be looking at the same thing for your 16s in the way of more specific loads or shot not easily or inexpensively bought factory new.

Shot is the big expense and you of course have to have hulls to reload, so when you factor everything in, the cost may surprise you, but the flexibility is what it is about.

How many shells do you plan to reload?

Budget?

Do you plan to load for any other gauges?

I started with Mec now I only use PW's because with patience they can be adjusted to produce better than factory ammo with wonderful crimps and because I load a lot of new primed hulls.

Hello Timn

10-4 on rkittine's post

I assume you are speaking of standard 2 3/4" reloads.

For most folks the best singe stage press is the MEC Sizemaster

For most folks the best progressive press is the MEC 9000

Highest in consideration is quantity of production and reloading experience.

If you will be loading/shooting about 100 or so a month the Sizemaster is the ticket

Me?? I use a Texan progressive, a MEC 600 Jr. , a Ponsness Warren 375 and a Pacific 155, all have different specialties. Plus I have and use a MEC SuperSizer.

I have MEC sizemasters in four gauges including 16 ga. They work great for me.

I have three mec progressive loaders, and I have shot six flat of shells in the last two weeks. I am leaning towards the pw or another grabber been keeping my herders hulls. Don't know how good they will reload but going to try.

I just upgraded from a 600jr to a sizemaster. Now that I have the sizemaster dialed in I like it. But shells/hr production is down.
