What should I open the "FULL" choke to, either IC or Lite Modifiy?

Mostly for upland and waterfowl use [using Kent Bismuth].

Thanks.

Shoot waterfowl over decoys? or pass shoot? If over decoys, IC is plenty good, and will also allow you to shoot steel and other harder-than-your-barrel non-toxic alloys (tungsten) with no damage to the barrel. With today's plastic wad units, IC gives quite good results out to 35 to 40 yards with lead and most likely bismuth or other soft shot. With steel it would also be good out that far, and with the more dense hard non-toxics (Hevi-Shot, etc) you are good way out there probably at 50 to 55 depending on your shooting. Today, IC is the most versatile choke for both upland birds and waterfowling. Even with pheasants, birds are seldom taken longer than 35 yards. Want tighter patterns with IC and lead or bismuth, for birds out longer than 35 yards (some late season pheasants, for instance)? Use large shot (#4 -- you'll need the downrange pellet energy anyway) and buffer the shot with Precision Reloading PSB (Precision Spherical Buffer). That will all act to keep your pattern tighter way out there.

Happy Hunting!

Hey JRoth -- IC is also a great compromise for all clay target games, too. It's not like you'd be trying to average 98% in skeet, trap, 5-stand or sporties with an A-5 anyway.

waterfowling consist mostly of wading along various rives in the area and jump shooting, so an IC would be ideal.

When I get a dog [Springer / Brit] for upland then it will bbe IDEEl, next ti my M37 with a SKT choke and MarlinM90 for open fields.

Thanks for respponses.

One smith indicated that a week and $100 bucks will get it done.

Just might try it myself as I have some adjustable reamers.

Good Hunting and shooting to ALL!

Some would cry foul at this, but I was going to suggest sending it off to Poly-Choke. My "stealth" / unmarked Sweet 16 sports one and I'm pleased with it.

Note I said "was"..... best I can tell though, they seem to be having some financial problems at best, or may not exist at worst?

No interest in having the work done and changeable chokes installed? Just a thought.

Cheers to having two barrels & happy shooting.

When I bought my model 12 at a gun show years ago the first thing I did on the way home was to stop at my dad's farm and pattern it to find that it was indeed a full choke barrel. I took it to a local gunsmith to install a recoil pad to lengthen the stock for me and had him open the choke to skeet 2 which is a light modified.
The next weekend it performed well for the pheasant opener and for sporting clays as well.
