Looking to up grade from my marlin 90 16 ga to a Browning 16 ga for trap only. I want at least 30 in barrels, adjustable comb, adjustable rib, screw in chokes. Has Browning ever made one? I have been hitting 20 or more targets consistently and promised myself I once I had improved enough, I would spend the money on a dedicated trap gun. I will set up the marlin 90 for sporting clays. |

The only one you will find with 30" or 32" barrel is the 525 , I have seen some with adjustable comb but I think there where added later , have never seem one with an adjustable rib. |

Only Browning Trap gun that I know of with an adjustable rib is the Cynergy Unsingle Barrel. The O/U barrel that comes with the set does not have an adjustable rib like some other trap combos. Of course never made in 16 gauge that I know of. When talking to Browning, they claim that they did it intentionally and tried to explain to me why, which I was not buying. Of course you could take a 16 Gauge 525 and add an "Add A Rib" adjustable one to the current rib and adjust the adjustable comb (assuming you have one) to the new rib height. I did that on one of my 1100s to turn it into a trap back up gun. Had to have the adjustable comb installed, but I am not a fan of the adjustable comb hardware that Browning uses anyway.

I have a 32" 525. 16 ga. I use for trap and sporting.miller chokes. Sorry not for sale though. There are a few guys looking for a 30 but prefer a 32. After they seen me take several at the back fence in shootoffs. Gave 2900.00 for mine 2 yrs ago. Was offered 4500.00 3weeks ago. No way. My standard load is with 1 oz. Same load in shootoffs. |

Any 16 gauge hunting gun is adequate for recreational trap singles. A longer barreled pump gun is ideal IMO, but there's nothing wrong w/ a 28 inch O/U either.
But if you intend to shoot registered or league targets, then better go w/ a 12 gauge trap gun set up for the game. This is especially true if you are shooting on a team. Your buddies will greatly appreciate it. I know I would. |

I learned to shoot trap with a beretta sxs 16ga model 410....and that hurt. But it was fun being the only nut on the line with a sxs and when I ran a 25 for the first time I got a lot of strange looks.
The next gun I acquired was a 16ga Browning citori lightning feather with 28in bbls. I got pretty good with that gun and a lot better once I got a full set of extended chokes from trulock.
Once I mastered that citori on the line, I came to the realization that, with all those chokes and the lightness of the gun, it was really best suited for sporting clays and skeet. The 12ga ou Franchi I had was just simply superior on the trap line with its weight and mass and fixed bbl F/M chokes - perfect fit - clay destroyer.
So, the 12ga Franchi is my trap gun. but with all the chokes, my beloved citori is my most versatile gun - trap, skeet, sporting clays and the field. |

I almost exclusively use a 16 gauge for trap. I don't shoot in a league, just for fun. My most used is a first-run Citori Lightning 28" with Briley extended chokes. I have added 8 oz. in the stock and use a bronze weight in the barrel that a machinist friend made for me, it weighs 8.5 oz. I got the idea for this from the C & H mercury recoil reducer that fits in the barrel (they only make 12 ga.). With the weights added it brings the weight of the gun to 7 lbs. 11.5 oz. and balances on the hinge. It is a good combination and works for me. |
