Mom and Dad were both Marines.

Dad retired as a 1st Lt, drawing CWO3 pay
Mom was one of the 65 women to start the Woman's Marine Corps during WWII.

Awesome
Mike

To dad today: Happy birthday Marine.

He retired in ‘80 with thirty years in the Corp. He was the third ranked NCO in at that point. Damn proud of him and his service. God bless the USMC!

Gentlemen,
Leaving to meet a few fellow Viet Nam Veterans for Brunch, hope all who took the Oath to Protect our US Constitution have a great day under the freedom they all helped so bravely to provide.

Happy Veterans Day and Happy Birthday to all the Marines.

May 7, 1967 to June 1971. Were you at San Diego or Paris Island?

Good Hunting,
Mike

Chicago, I was a Hollywood Marine, Platoon 378; but after overseas and a few months at CamPen I went to NWS Charleston and spent a few weeks at Parris Island for rifle and pistol qualification. Permanent personnel went to great lengths to keep us away from the recruits - they didn't want us to infect them so early in their career.

Happy Birthday USMC!

Pop was 5th Marine Div Iwo Jima veteran, wounded by machine gun fire but was patched up and stayed through the duration. He watched the famous flag raising on Mt Suribachi from the battlefield.

He hit the beach at Iwo Jima in first 30 min, and we have his hand written notes of what the landing was like, starting with unimaginable chaos and then steadily establishing order, hope some day to publish.

Pop was taught marksmanship at OCS Ft Lejune by future USMC Commandant Capt. Lew Walt, and qualified Expert in rifle and pistol. At age 75 Pop amazed us by shooting a 4 in. group with a surplus M-1 from 100 yds prone.

We never heard him utter a word of complaint, and he carried himself with an air of quiet confidence and authority, which we attributed to his USMC training as his many USMC comrades all exhibited the same trait when they visited us.

Today he guards the brow of a hill at Ft Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek MI. Needless to say, US Marines are HIGHLY HONORED in our family.

B.

San Diego, Platoon 375. I was full Hollywood, being in the Air Wing and spent all of 1969 at Marble Mountain near China Beach and Danang.

Good Hunting,
Mike

Happy Birthday to the Marines. I celebrate veterans' Day today which celebrates all veterans.

Enlisted Aug 31st, 1961, basic training & AIT at FT. Ord California -destination Germany.

Final discharge, FT. Carson, Co, 1 Jan, '95 - took a nine year break from the service.

Was everything from a ground pounder to paper pusher. Wink
