The first time I shot Remington Game Loads in my 16 Ga. Remington 48, I noticed that the rim of the shells were being bent by the extractors. I had the chamber polished but the shell rims are still being bent. I'm curious to know if anyone else has had this issue with their Rem. 48. Also looking for suggestions on how to remedy the problem.

I don't reload 16 ga shells, but would the bent shell rib be a problem for those who do? |

I have the same issue on my 16 ga 11-48. Its not pretty but I reload them once and dump them. I could do more but figure it must be putting some stress on the hull so I just dump them after one reloading. |

I wonder if the older Browning A-5's have that problem since it is my understanding that the 48 is based on Browning's patent. |

+1, nature of the beast, sizemaster/collet resizer usually irons out any hull head issues, as long as the plastic hull walls are sound keep reloading em, good to go. another common anomaly in the fired hulls coming out of the 48's is the hull head metal flow into the extractor recess.
I don't remember the issue on the few older A5's Ive played with. Its my understanding that the family tree goes something like this; A5...Rem M11...48's..1100
I don't shoot mine as much as I used to, kinda all in on O/U's of late, but IMO they are great field guns similar to timex watches, takes a licking and keeps on ticking, enjoy... |

Putz463, what a great analogy- an 11-48 and a Timex watch. I am a fan of most old, simple, useful things. |

I have a Remington model 11 and an 11-48. I don't use either as much as I once did...more of a sxs guy, but If I'm heading to some rough country, I'll use the 11-48 without any qualms about function.
It does indent the metal head but I don't concern myself with the issue. If the case is still viable, I'll reload as is and continue to run them through the 11-48. IMO, the 11-48 is fairly bullet proof. |
