Floppintom,
There are some of us here in Pa who hunt Grouse and Woodcock with good double guns, and never would dream of hunting wild Quail with a semi-auto. Glad you took your double, however in Texas and Az while in the Army we shot doubles on Quail most all the time. Lots of wild Quail in that era. Got to admit the Mearns Quail are similar to Grouse doubles, a man has to know how to use his double gun while hunting them. The the wild Bob's were great fun also, but not near as challenging.
There is a great deal of difference between a Pa city boy shooting clays, and a Pa Potter County back woodsman, gunning Grouse and Woodcock. We do like good conversations while hunting and even traveling and especially around the big rock fire pit in the evening, with some good coffee or fine sipping whiskey and a good cigar.
Pine Creek/Dave
You are welcome to join us in the Grouse Woods with your favorite double gun some time, and of course join us around the fire after the Grouse hunt.
As you can see by the picture we have a pretty conservative group here in the back woods.
