I have a new citori 16 that has had an odd malfunction twice in the field. In both cases I fired both barrels, when I opened the action to eject, it wouldn't open all the way till I applied a lot of force. After the gun ejected, I was unable to close the action. I had to take the gun apart and lift the cocking lever to reassemble and close the action. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if you know how to fix it.

Just to clarify, the gun opens some but to fully open takes the excessive force?

First thought was a firing pin hanging in the primer, but if it opens part way normally, that wouldn’t be the case. Do you see a any marks at the base of the lower chamber ridge where the pin might be hitting?

Sounds like the gun should be returned for factory repair..

Correct, it opens halfway with no resistance, then takes excessive force.

Sounds like the stock is binding the internals

New gun, send it back.

or

Pull the stock and look for rub marks
and while the stock is off shoot a few EMPTY hulls and watch
the opening mechanisms

Mike

p.s. have you cleaned off the factory preservative and used a good
gun grease on the knuckles and other pressure points?

Thanks Mike- I have cleaned and greased everything except for the receiver internals. I have a feeling I should but I am leery of pulling the stock off as I know I have to get the bolt torque right when I put it back on.

I had a similar issue with my new citori. After the first cleaning, Factory shells and snap caps went in and out without an issue. However my reloaded herters cases stuck in the chambers. The action would open slightly until the extractors engaged and then it would stop. I had to force it open and paid the devil removing the shells.

I cleaned the chambers and barrels several time before firing the gun. I had no issues through 4 boxes of factory shells. I turned down the resizer on my reloader and reloaded the 4 boxes of shells. With the base dimensions reduced, the shells fell in and out.

Could you be having issues with a slightly sticky chamber and a specific lot of ammunition? If cleaning the heck out of the chambers and trying a new lot of ammunition doesn't help, I'd send it back.

Good Luck.

Bill

I found a sort of solution thanks to Browning CS. The "cocking lever lifter" is a little sliding bar on the underside of the barrel lugs. It must have gotten stuck in the back position instead of springing forward to clear the receiver frame when the action was closed. I lubed it up and it seems to slide freely. The inital lubing instructions in the owner's manual doesn't mention this part at all, seems pretty critical though.
