I am interested in a good field load ( 1 1/16 - 1 1/8 oz ) with cheddite hull, 800x, and field commander z-16 wad. I see the bpi recipes on the yahoo group spreadsheet but wanted to see if you guys could confirm through personal experience that that data was accurate. Thanks in advance for any help and/or advice. |

Ok, let me try again ...I can’t seem to pull up ANY 16 ga loads on Hodgdon’s site using their reloading data app when I select cheddite as my hull and 800x as my powder. Actually, universal is only powder option available on drop down menu. 🤷♂️ So does anyone have any experience with 800x, cheddite hulls and primers used with any wad not named SP-16 😀? |

Thanks skeettx! I am looking for loads using z-16 or other snug fitting wad appropriate for a herter's cheddite hull. Is there a European wad with same shot cup capacity as the Rem SP-16? |

Yes the Ch1632 wad , but I have not seen any data using 800x . I think it would be feasible with 1 1/8oz to about 1220 fps max if you wanted to do some testing .
Bowbuilder did some testing with the 1628 wad ( which is basically the same wad ) using Longshot with 1 1/8oz and 1 1/4 oz loads.
Cheddite 2 3/4 1 1/8 Longshot 24.0 Win 209 Ched 1628 10,600psi 1310 fps
Cheddite 2 3/4 1 1/4 Longshot 22.5 Win 209 Ched 1628 10,950psi 1210 fps |

I had a little bit of testing done with the Cheddite 1628 wad & 800-X. With 23.0 grains of 800-X in a Federal hull with a CCI209 primer and 1 1/8 oz. of shot the pressure was 13,000 PSI. That exact load with a Remington SP-16 wad is right around 9,000 PSI and 1270 FPS.
I think I would take a good look at the loads that Bowbuilder has with Longshot. I believe those to be a better fit than 800-X with the 1628 wad.
Tom Armbrust did the testing for me. |

I misspoke.....60 plus year old memory.
The original load pressure is 9,800 psi, with Federal 16 ga. paper base hull, CCI209, 23.0 grains 800-X, with the SP16 wad, 1 1/8 oz.....1277 FPS
The load I sent to Tom Armbrust was Federal 16 ga. paper base hull, CCI209, 24.0 grains 800-X, with the 1628 wad, 1 1/8 oz....
1365 FPS. 13900 PSI |

No one was any more surprised than I was at those results. |
