Wyo, I sometimes run into the same thing with loads that really fill the hull, the little bulge right above the brass. here is my solution.

Precrimp

Slide the ring over the precrimped hull

Crimp

The ring is standard 6061T6 1" aluminum round stock, very common.
The dimensions are:

O.D. - 1.000"
I.D. - 0.740"
Height - 0.494"
Chamfer i- 0.065"

I believe ill purchase a crimp starter. Im using the meeck onthe loader i converted to 16 progressive. I read a study recently on differnt lubricating oils. Which ones workbfor moisture abones work fr lubercation. A good extensive study of 40 different lubs. In the end study the topb3 were Hornady no.one.WD40 special 3 in one oil. I will try and find that study and post it on here in case there's any interest. It's very surprising cause you can see the results as the rest are done over a 3 month period.it was in trapshooters.com forum in shooters related thread. I think.

Don't totally rely on or trust digital scales without verifying against a test weight that you should occasionally use to verify the reported weight. Gil

Hammer bill,

Rock n Roll Super Web Grease is perfect for MEC collets and pivot points. It is a high pressure grease that stays put.........and unlike the anti-seize grease that MEC recommends it doesn't make a mess.

Amazon, eBay. You can also find it at most bicycle shops. It was developed as a bearing grease that is largely unaffected by water.

DC37, maximum smoke., As far as accuracy what the mfgers. and the after market have is just fine. I have a problem with trying to tweek and finesse everything just to see if I can improve on a good thing. Guess it come from years of being in the medical device field 40 years. I look at something and try to improve on it.
Just what I do.

Hammerbill,

There are lots of parts and pieces on the reloading machines that can be perfected. The part that is over looked......you aren’t going to make the finished product (the reload) perform any better than the equipment that we have.

As much as I like to reload, I like to shoot 100 times that much. When I can match factory ammo for consistency and pattern with a very standard 9000G or H, any messing around I am going to do wil either, waste time, waste money, make things worse or all three.
Cool

Probably well known but cant hurt to share. My powder drop and overall load consistency (all single stage MEC machines 600's & SM's) is much better after clamping the presses more solidly/firmly to the bench. In the past I usually used only 1 clamp which allowed the press to move a little bit, it got the job done and never seemed to matter much but then read somewhere that solidly clamping/mounting the press helped load consistency. Go figure, it works.

Putzie , mine's bolted right to the table ... an old gunsmith "KINKS" trick is to wash the drop tube in JOY dish soap and air dry - no static .
