The SG16 wad in Iowa must be shorter then. In my 2.5" shells it is too short with 1 oz loads to be honest. I upped to 1.14 oz loads and it's just about perfect.

could you share the specs of this load .

I don't have it handy but I believe I found it in the latest Lyman manual. |

Here is a very typical load for the SG16(s) wad in a 2 3/4" hull.....and the effects of the two wads have on the crimp.
Federal 2 3/4" paper basewad hull
Federal 209A primer
20.5 grains Universal
Gaulandi 1 oz. wad both SG16 & SG16S versions
1 oz. #7 1/2 Magnum shot.
If the image isn't great the caliper reading is 2.731" OAL length
Precimp
______________________________________________
What the final crimp looks like with the SG16 wad that has all the little protrusions. That is about as flat as a crimp gets.
______________________________________
The load on the right has a very slight concave to the crimp. That is the result of using the SG16 wad with the 6 large protusions in the powder cup.
