I saw a Sears Ranger 16 gauge humpback model at a local shop for $275. Who made these models and what are they like? It seemed to be in okay shape. It definitely would be a shooter not a safe queen. It had a Mod. choke 28 inch plain barrel. The wood was decent with not cracks apparent. The bluing was somewhat worn maybe 60% left. Any comments?

A photo would help, but it sounds like it was made by Stevens and was the same as their model 520 pump gun. The 520 was a John Browning design. They are a little on the heavy side, but sound and well made.

$275 would be a fair price if everything works properly. Due to its age, it might have been made for 2 9/16" shells and may not handle modern 2 3/4" shells.

I guess I forgot to mention it is a semi auto model. It looks like the A5 or Model 11. I will go back and take another look at it this week.

Just think, Sears would be a solvent company if they still sold firearms😎
