This article was posted on one of the forums I frequent, several years ago. I thought it might be of interest to folks who have never seen it. It might change your mind on chokes, pellet sizes, payload weights, etc.......then again it might not.

Thanks for posting that info. After reading it, I wonder how I bag any birds at all. I have found crossing shots on pheasants to be a fairly reliable shot, where the article calls that a tough killing shot because of the bird's anatomy. My worst shot on pheasants is when they flush at 30-40 yards and I get a going away shot at the extreme ranges of 45-60 yards. Even nickel plated #5's don't seem to do much on those shots.

Interesting essay. To give birds the quick death they deserve when hunted, not only should the gun and ammo be up to it, but a dog is also an indispensable part of the team. Gil

Here is another essay on the same topic.

Thank you for posting this John Singer, I purchased a very lightly used copy off Ebay, nice informative read and nice add to the collection.

To a degree it runs analogous to how I approach skeet, always low gun, practice for field/hunting. I may never be club champ with this mindset but fine by me.

Many thanks...
