Well, all that browsing used guns got the better of me again! Ithaca N.I.D. 16 that almost fits me as is. This will be an easy project. Chambers are a tad short at 2 5/8" so I will give them that last 1/8" when I relieve the forcing cones. Modified and full choke. This will be a great prairie gun.

My 28" 16ga NID from 1926 weighs 6lbs 9oz. and the 16ga with 26" barrels made in 1935 weighs 6lbs 11oz. I suppose they're typical, wood density would be the main variable. I'm an NID fan too, they're nice solid guns. |

Those are nice weights for good shooting. NID's are solid SxS's! I could easily be tempted by the right one. |

I haven't put it to a scale, but my Fox is 6 1/2lbs and the two feel about the same, but the Ithaca is balanced slightly more toward the muzzle than the Fox.
Skeet, the serial number is in the 431,XXX range. |

Hard to imagine any other 92 year old double that is tougher and more durable than a NID. Gil |

Wasn't it @ 1934 that NID's went to 2 3/4in? |

Is that 1937 gun marked ithaca or is it a Lefever "A" grade? About the same thing of course, but the engaging has me thinking "A". |

My 1940 field grade. Looks like FN16's is a little slicker than mine.
Those cocking indicators are nice, so is the starburst models, but I guess at this stage of the game, I'll stick with what I have.
The only thing wrong with this gun is I don't use it enough. I have shot grouse and quail with it a number of times, and broke the ice on pheasants once.
I'm not quite the photographer that WyoChukar is!

That's great! I wondered if you still had that gun after seeing the old pictures in your book. |

WyoChukar, It is marked Ithaca. It is my understanding that the Lefever "A" grades are built just like the Nitro Specials with a different frame profile and better finish. |
