Have used Danner proghorns for the past decade or so. Tried two different kinds of LLBean leather boots and Rockies prior to that, with poor results. Despite terrible dewberry patches that attack boots here, the Danners generally give me 2-3 years of service and keep my feet dry under normal conditions. If my feet get wet, its usually from sweating even though I use un-insulated Danner's.

Under abnormally wet conditions, I turn to lacrosse ankle-fit knee boots.

The Crispi Wildrocks are super light and comfortable. Well made and reasonably priced. Also has enough insulation for the Midwest as it starts to cool down.

Midway USA has the Wildrock on sale for $150 off right now if you want a backup. If they had a pair in my size I would have ordered it without even thinking.

I have had most of the boots mentioned over the years including a custom pair of Russell Grand Slam Sheephunters. Up until a few years ago my favorite were the Cabela's Meindl Perfekt I always had the hiker and a taller version. About 5 years ago developed degenerative arthritis in my left ankle from an old injury. Can't even hunt without a cortisone shot at the beginning of the season. And then just barely.

Did a lot of research and stumbled on the Crispi boots with the A.B.S.S.: Ankle Bone Support System. It works and they are the best boots I have ever owned. I have 2 pair, the hunters I got through BlackOvis and the Nevada through Midway USA. Scheels is starting to carry Crispi boots also.

I have the Nevada's on now. But then again I almost always do. And will pick up another pair of Crispi boots to add to the rotation.

The Crispi boots have blown away any other boot I have ever owned. But they only import a limited number each year in my size so they go fast. Really debated even posting this because of that.

Looking at North Face, Under Armour, LL Bean and Keens right now. But certainly haven't figured it out yet.

I have until September!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Keep them coming.

Someone just posted about Crispi boots and they offer a Thor GTX boot that is technical and has gortex that might fit your requirements. I know you mentioned you didn’t want leather.

I use Muck chore boots for chjores around the yard and when it is going to be wet. Underarmour Bozeman boots for most of my upland hunting. By year two they are no longer waterproof.

Well, the search for boots stopped here. WyoChukar suggested a few different boots made by Salomon and I found these to my liking. The X Ultra Winter CS WP2.

They should arrive in time for me to use them in Nebraska this year. I will write a short note about them, once I wear them hunting a bunch of times.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

They arrived yesterday. extremely light (at least compared to my old boots) and they support the ankle well. Salomon X ULTRA WINTER CS WP 2.

I will let you know how they hold up.

I can't remember. I'm too old for storing all that information. I would not buy these boots again.

I actually ordered a set of the X Ultra's yesterday. My Salomon Chaltens are not worn out yet, but after the performance they gave in the worst of conditions when there was lot on the line, I figured the improved version was something I really should have.

Not with that model, but I daily wear the Thorogood Wedge sole Moc Toe 8”. Most comfortable boot I’ve ever worn, comfort from day 1. My foot is particular and I’ve tried many of the production boots. Redwing, Wolverine, Rocky, Danner, Double H, Justin etc.

I have tried most. Most recent favorite are Nike leather high tops. They are light, water repellent and comfortable. Good for a season or two of bird hunting, then pitch and replace. Perfect sizes available for more narrow foot.
