I may have the opportunity to purchase a marlin model 24 16 ga. I’m unsure of barrel length or choke, I haven’t seen it yet. Anyone here have one? |

Coyote,
Several months ago, I purchased what I thought was a Model 1898 Marlin 16 gauge C grade in excellent shape. There is nothing stamped on the gun to indicate the model number other than the patent dates on the barrel (1894,1896). On my recent road trip out west, I stopped in Cody at the firearms museum (what an amazing place) and went looking for my gun. As it turns out, they had model 1898,17G,24 and 30G Marlins. My gun apparently turns out to be a model 24. Still a beautiful gun. It has a 26 inch barrel with a cylinder choke. I have shot several boxes of 2 1/2 inch light 3/4 oz. reloads out of it at skeet. Fun gun to shoot and did very well with it. In 1998 or so, Marlin issued a warning not to shoot any of these models. I feel with the condition of mine and the use of light loads there should be no issues. I don't intend on shooting it much, it is really just something that I had to have. |
