Finally had a chance to shoot a couple 16 gauge hitch hikers who thumbed their way into my safe this past winter. Black Belt and I headed over to one of my favorite SC ranges (Woods & Meadow) and did some shoot'n. Woods & Meadow has two overlapping 50 targets courses, so it works well to shoot 50 with one shotgun, stop back for a soda, and then shoot the 2nd 50 with another shotgun.

The Parker is a 1913 VH with 30" FxF barrels. What a sweet n' easy shooter! I ran the first station with it, and overall shot it very well despite the Full chokes and 2 7/8" drop at heel. The 30" barrels swing so sweetly, and I felt like I was in control even on the longer tricky targets.

I also ran the first station with the Fox, a 1928 Sterlingworth with 28" M&F chokes, and overall shot it nearly as well as the Parker. The Fox has even more drop at with 3" at the heel, but long as I didn't mash my cheek hard into the stock the sight picture was fine.

Thanks, gents!

The Parker in particular had a very high fun-factor. With the RST loads (7/8 oz. @ 1125 fps) it had virtually no recoil, and those 30" barrels flowed to the targets with mathematical certainty. Jason put it best after he shot it and said it was "highly addicting."

I can almost smell the freshly fired paper hulls, pipe smoke and wet bird dog.
