im seriously thinking of thinning out my rem sportsmans. do you have a 16ga skeet gun?
would you like a companion 12ga skeet vr to go with it? or a skeet cutts vr 20ga?
if I see some interest, i'll post an ad here for 16ga members to get dibbs on them.
I will do my best for pics.
lmk!

My collection of "Sportsman" are all A "Standard" Grades but I have an extra 26-inch vent rib SKEET barrel for my 20-gauge. In all my years of watching "Sportsman" I've only seen one righteous "Sportsman" Skeet Gun, and that was a well worn vent ribbed 20-gauge at Clark Bros. in Virginia about 30 years ago.

FWIW -- In period correct Remington Arms Co., Inc. terminology (1930 to 1948) the three-shot gun is a "Sportsman" and the five-shot gun is the Model 11.

While one could get a SKEET choked barrel on a Model 11, only the "Sportsman" was ever cataloged as a Skeet Gun --

ya know....if you sold me that extra skeet bbl, I might keep my 20ga! it has a cutts on it with a factory vent rib now.

see? I was right! but for the sake of the viewers I had to change it to sportsman 11 to separate them from the 58.
I haven't been to clark bros in years. they always seemed to have nice old guns up high on the walls. I always liked the idea of them being right at an important intersection. it was nice to hear guns on the range being fired as you waited to make a left turn. :>

what makes the 12 rare is that it was never cut and has the correct buttplate with factory lop intact.
the 20? nope. was cut down and a pad put on. but if youre a short lop shooter. it would work in your favor. someone really liked this gun. they restored it and jeweled the bolt. collectible? not as much, but it does have a pistol grip cap for a skeet grade gun.

im like you. I look for the skeet guns but rarily do I see them. either they were shot to dickens and destroyed or not many were made and they still sit in barns or old houses unused.
I found the 12ga at jim jaskens place in morrehead minn and the 20ga? I forgot. id have to check my books! when I saw the grip cap I pounced on it not caring about the other flaws. it was better than what I had.....nadda.

That young "curly haired polo player" from California shot a gun with a Cutts --

Little easier to tell it is a "Sportsman" here --

Can't tell if this is a "Sportsman" or a Model 11, in this 1963 magazine cover photo, but with no grip cap it isn't a Skeet Gun per se --

Collect 11's? I had 3 at one time, including the '37 I got from DE. Once I got that from Dave, there wasn't any reason to keep the others. Its also the A5 that keeps me wondering if I really need one of the new Sweet 16's.
