Does anyone know if 11-48's in 20 gauge were smaller receivers than 16 gauges? If you have a standard field plain barrel in 20 ga, what does it weigh? Thanks |

I will weigh mine and let you know asap. It's a 26" plain barrel 20ga. |

While we're on the subject. I'm looking for a 11-48 in 28 gauge. |

My 16ga 11-48 weighs 6 lbs 14 oz. with a 26" plain barrel. My 20ga weighs 6lbs 12oz and has a 28" plain barrel. But I'm not sure this small difference is in the receiver as there are other things that influence gun weights - wood density being one of the most important.
Seems like I read somewhere that the 11-48s have the same receiver size in 16 and 20 gauge but the 12 gauge receivers were larger. I may be wrong about that, but if there is a difference it isn't much.
It is interesting to note that my 16ga 11-48 weighs only one ounce more than my Browning Sweet 16 with the same barrel length. |

This 48 receiver size comparison has been explored before in several old threads but I have poor luck using the search option.
I can share that the couple 12ga 48's I've compared to my 16ga's were larger. And the 12g 48 butt stock I modified to my 16ga S48 AKA "Brushnog" was larger in the wrist and had to be sanded down. But have never had a 16 & 20 next to each other to compare.
Flues16, seems as though you hold the key, can you measure the receivers on your 2 guns and compare the dim's? It might help put Savage16's question of differing 48 receiver sizes to bed.
This thread reminds me I haven't taken the Brushhog out for a walk in awhile and prompts me to run a couple lines of skeet with it today. |
