Hello All

We are blessed beyond measure

Got up and put the flag out front.

To celebrate I went to the range this morning.
Shot a new to me S&W 1000 in 20 gauge, was free to me as it was NOT working. I cleaned it and re-aligned the gas tube and all is well.

Also shot a Rem 700 VT Special in 308 W with cast bullets,

Rem 40-x in 22-250
Rem 40-X in 22 LR
and Ruger AR-15 in 5.56

Now home will clean up and cook BRATS on the grill, YUM!!

What joy, what joy

Mike

Happy 4th to everyone on this board. Today would have been my Dad's 97th birthday. Although he has been gone 20 years, I think of him often especially when I am hunting or shooting with my nephew. He taught both us us to shoot and his influence even extends to our gun club where he served 2 years as president.

He he he
I am a closet preparationist.
Not a gloom and doomer, but I wanted to be
able to make my own bullets.

So I shoot my homemade cast bullets in some
of my larger caliber guns, 308, 38-55, 45-70, 375 H&H, etc.
What fun, what fun

My goal is to get them to group inside 1 inch for 5 shot group at 100 yards

Mike

BOILING brats??? Sacrilege! That reduces the flavor factor to just barely north of nothing! Try just grilling them, low and slow, until the casings crisp nicely. Much better flavor.

Skeetx,

Which bullet(s) do you use in 308?
Been using cast boolits for 40+ years in my ryfels.
Current favorite experiment is subsonic 230 gr Lee with Trail Boss...

I don't care if you boil your brats or not.

Lyman 311465, 311466, or 311467
Wheelweights

Hornady crimp on gas checks
Javilina ALOX lube, sized to .311

4227, from 20 to 24 grains, very specific, ladder it up
by half of grain for best groups.

Case mouths prepared with Lyman "M" die
Bullets seated out pretty long.

Now here is the odd part, best groups with powder oriented
towards the bullet and NOT the base.

Long time rifle reloader here, but I've never delved into cast bullets. I'm curious to know how they perform on game, or is it purely for economical shooting at the range?
