That's too bad they couldn't figure it out. It would have greatly helped further the resurgence of new sxs's in America. I recently bought a Charles Daly (made in Turkey) 512 sxs, 3" chambers, 28", choke tubes, st, pistol grip, as a dedicated target gun, because it was only $700. The fit and finish for a $700 gun is astounding. The barrels are struck beautifully and well regulated. All that, and it weighs only 6lbs even. It's actually too light for a target gun, so now I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.

Hollow out the forearm and the butt stock and melt lead into it. Check the balance point first. You have the skills to do it. Balancing a gun to fit your style might prove to be an interesting project. You could buy a matching gun for $700 and leave it light for hunting.
Have one with English grip. Nice gun, havd had no problems.
